That does sound like a firmware issue to me. lt could well have been fixed by re flashing or resetting the ECU.

I think there may be a fault in the battery pack, as I've heard that small things that shouldn't really stop the car from working like the trailer detection sensor (or something like that) misfunctioning do in fact brick the car. And, all the problems seem to be revolving around it not taking charge etc.

Thanks guys.
There more i think about it I also suspect water in some electrical system on the bottom of the car. Prior to the last incident I washed the car with a power washer. The accident before that we got stuck in the mud (waist deep) . And one few months ago the hybrid system stopped working (without error on screen only obd) after a few shallow river crossings. I would be very interested to know if you know of other people who had similar “unexplainable” errors after water. |

The power shower shouldn't have affected it but being stuck in waist deep mud may have a bearing on your vehicle's failure.
Although the Defender is designed to wade through up to a metre of water, l imagine if you stop moving in the middle of said water it would be much more of a test. |

Update in case somebody else has this in the future.
The car was towed to the dealer in Sofia - "Moto pfohe JLR". NEVER GO THERE, it is seriously the most unprofessional place I have ever been. Really they do not deserve the logo on the wall. First the car got there on a flatbed. They couldn't get it off because it had no ignition, no electronic way of releasing the gear into neutral. The car wouldn't respond with even 2 external batteries hooked up to the starter battery. In the end the car was winched off the flatbed onto the ground. After that they kept the car for two days and stated "your problem is not a problem, we charged it was a JLR approved charger and now it's working". No more further investigation. I tried to persuade them but they said I needed to go for a testdrive myself to figure it out. When they brought out the car the "service" manager crashed the car into the overhead door damaging the boxes on the roofrack. They refuse to get new boxes (500 euro a piece) or reimburse me for it. No communication possible, most horrible dealer on the planet. Regarding the problem I suspect water in electronics maybe, because the issues resolves itself. But I don't know for sure since.. well see above. |

I am sure they said the same about cars and horses back in 1912, but I can't help but think that the P400e is not the most suitable car to go wading with or get stuck in waist deep mud in or to have the complicated electrons and software analysed and fixed somewhere in Sofia
The target market for the new defender is 'aspirational adventurer, with a lot of money' and or soccer mum/dad with clearly more lifestyle and money than the other one. Typically in the USA (money) or the UK (heritage) and anywhere else they can scrape by local SUV unfriendly regulations and tax rules. Maybe in few years time when hybrid power trains are common, well understood and more robust... For now you probable would have found a 300tdi easier to deal with. |

Take the vehicle back to the dealer (with a trailer attached if possible) and park across the access road to the service department. Sit in the vehicle and tell them you'll move when they reimburse you for the damage that they did. |

I had similar issues on an X5 45e, turned out to be a bad OTA update IIRC.

Haha thats a great idea! So far haven’t been reimbursed. And my legal insurance also wiggles their way out of helping. I think ill just have to take my loss. Maybe make a few nasty phonecalls if they ever pick up the phone 🙄 My case wasn’t an update, there weren’t any at the moment. Havent found out what it was, not sure if I ever will. |

Near enough. The official Positioning, as JLR themselves call it, is that the “Luxury Range Rover” boasts “Refinement” and targets “Independent Achievers”; the “Leisure Discovery” has “Versatility” for “Active Providers”; and the “Dual-Purpose Defender” with its “Durability” is aimed at “Authentic Adventurers”. The “Family” vehicle that never happened was to sell on the basis of “Truth”, whatever the heck that was supposed to mean… Peter |

That'll be why it doesn't exist then, JLR is probably still wondering what "truth" is, other than a slightly alien concept to them! |
