2006 TD5 swivel pre load
Hi guys just joined the forum as I’m new to defender ownership and have a slight query. I have rebuilt my swivels with all new components, I have 2 bearings top and bottom(timken) but I’m struggling to find the correct pre load setting. I have left the plate and seal off as per the manual but the Haynes says 3.5kg to 4.5kg but some mention 1.14-1.4 kg. Just wondered what others have used when rebuilding the swivels with bearings and not the earlier bush. It’s a non abs car.

Use the lower values.
The higher values are for earlier swivel pins with the Railko top bearing. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
