I've just rebuilt my defender 90 puma, 2.4, the clutch was renewed using a new lok pressure plate and cover unit, slave cylinder with the more recent adaptor, and new master cylinder . I can't seem to fully bleed the air out the hydraulics, despite trying several methods - conventional, eezi bleed, etc. any advice would be appreciated ๐

My thoughts..๐ค๐
If when you depress the pedal with the bleed open you are not seeing a good drop of fluid level in the resevoir that's the first issue..it will never bleed if you arnt shifting fluid..four strokes and it should need topping I've found that cracking the outlet union on the master cylinder until you get a good flow of fluid under gravity with no air usually sorts that that and enables good flow when pumped.. If you are seeing fluid moving properly the other thing I do is make sure the pipe coming off the bleed nipple is taken to a higher level before the fluid exits it into a container.. that ensures a head of fluid and if you are on your own a bit time to get round and close the bleed.. Because of the position of the slave cylinder and it only has one pipe to it, if there is a bit air in there it may take time for it to gravitate to the bleed, so be patient and give it time.. maybe leave the bleed open and check that fluid level in the master drops slowly under gravity..it should..๐ |

Thanks for that Andy, I'll try and extended tube off the bleed nipple up into the bonnet area, would you leave the nipple open overnight say ? .

The extended clear tube is use just to allow some fluid head over the nipple and so I'm not rushing round to close the bleed nipple after I finish pumping..
Be mindful that if you leave the bleed valve open and the tube outlet is above the master resevoir then there won't be any fluid flow but air trapped in the slave may still migrate to the tube..in that case you could leave the bleed valve open all night.. if the tube outlet is lower than the master cylinder reservoir gravity should ensure a flow of fluid.. I doubt you could leave that overnight.. if memory serves me right I saw a change in the resevoir level in minutes under those circumstances... To me the main point is to make sure the master cylinder is pumping fluid and pump a few resevoirs through before closing the bleed..๐ |

I'm at odds with the advice about just opening the bleed nipple slightly..
Open it fully.. the flats only rotate 180 degrees from closed to open..but as said it should rotate easily.. no great force required.. |
