Re Fumoto valves - no risk of them getting knocked off when offloading and losing all the oil?

Just done an interim change at 10k miles (from July) and I have only managed 7Lt up including oil filter. I read the capacity is 8.8L?

It is. Did you use an extractor or drain through the sump plug?
It’s easy to get the extractor tube stuck on the sump and it not go all the way to the bottom. |

First I went too deep in and I couldn’t extract any oil! I have then adjusted several times and got only 7LT out. Regardless of my effort to find the right spot .
I was expecting to extract something near the 8.5Lt mark if the capacity was 8.8. Can someone confirma what is the oil capacity for the ingenium 6 cyl diesel? |

9.8 litres according to the manual. I’ve only ever managed to get about 9 litres out though.

Is it that much of a pain to drain the oil via the sump plug? Do you have to remove under trays and the like or is there a small panel that you remove to access the drain plug?

It's a pain. expecially for me suffering from Back pain
The trays overlap and the bolts access not great. No panel for draining the oil. I might at this point do the job once and for all. Remove the tray, cut a hole for future easy access. Don't know why they didn't design it for easy access. Sure there is a valid reason. |

No idea why it’s designed that way, they remove the trays to do the oil changes in the dealership I’ve used - though it’s much easier on a ramp.

Just bought a 20L can of Miller XF Premium C2 ECO 0w-30 oil. Went down to 7.6 pounds per LT. not bad this days!
Can’t find the sump plug for the 3LT diesel, anybody knows the part number? |

With some of the reports of finding iron in tested oil samples would it be prudent to fit a magnetic sump plug? Not sure what size they would be but I fitted mag plugs to my diffs and transfer box and was shocked at the fillings they picked up between oil changes.

The plug thread size is M14 x 21mm.
You can buy the rubber seal for these plugs separately, in case you fit a magnetic sump plug that you don’t want to discard at every oil change. However, the engine has an oil filter that should collect the small filings that you see on the differential plugs.I think the only iron of some sort that would stick to the magnetic sump plug would be very fine sludge and you don’t have the relative movement of gear mesh in gear boxes in an engine. I have seen one report of high iron readings in engine oil on here, and it was only the symptom, not the root cause as the engine did not get analysed for abnormal wear. Time will tell if abnormal wear is really an issue on these engines, so far it has been rather quiet and I stick to 10k mile change intervals. |

HI. The service interval is 34T km. I change oil and filter every 11T km, 2 times in between every two dealership services. I do these myself, and I use the original OEM oil and an original OEM filter - so they do not realize this is happening. I do not want a guarantee violation discussion.
I use a vacuum pump to suck the oil out, and I do not bother if a fraction of a liter remains in there. Making sure the dealership use the drain plug when they do their oil changes, this mixture of near professional and fully professional jobs makes me feel happy. EDIT - thank God for the dip stick we now have again. Makes life a lot easier. My D4s and D5 with the SDV6 engines did not have that luxury. Last edited by CMG on 23rd Dec 2024 9:58pm.
