td5 engine characteristics
Hi,

I'm new to the Td5 engine and just wondered if this is normal?
When stationary in neutral, if you blip the throttle it feels and sounds like its going to stall when the revs drop back down but then the idle cuts in and it idles normally. It revs really cleanly and smooth and no stumble once it reaches idle, its just when the revs come back down it feels odd, like the ecu is cutting fuel.

Also, with a stage 1 remap is the MAF generally disabled/bypassed?

Thanks
Mike

I ran a standard tune 90 Td5 for 190k miles, I would say it sounds abnormal but might be the remap - ignore unless it starts stalling

The MAF will still be being used

Unplug it and see if you get any improvement to your return to idle.

The Td5 cuts fuel completely on overrun so the injectors are effectively switched off until fuelling is needed again, sounds normal to me.

MAF should be working but does depend on the tuner Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thank you that’s exactly what it sounds and feels like. My old R1 track bike had the same fuel cut. I’ve watched a few YouTube vids of TD5’s revving and they all sound the same as mine.
I think im doing my usual and just trying to find faults on my new to me car.

Thanks all for the replies
Mike

Yes, sounds like normal TD5 characteristics to me, I have owned two over the years, one in my previous Discovery and one in my current Defender, both had what you describe.

My dad also owns an auto Discovery td5 and his is the same, it can sound like its going to stall when coming off throttle but it's fine.
