I was once told that with a Durite 140 amp VSR split charge relay all you need to do is put a switch on the neg feed to the VSR and this then stops (when the neg feed is set to off) the relay clicking in and therefore only charges the starter battery .. never tried it but it makes sense .. thoughts ? Cheers

I have a dual battery setup with a Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A Non-Isolated DC-DC charger installed. I leave it on a trickle charger for weeks at a time via an Anderson connector to the starter battery. I keeps both batteries charged just fine.

That's right, it ie what I do. It works with all those generic VSRs like the Durite one. I use a plug to disconnect the earth rather than a switch though. I need to get round to swapping it to a switch really 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
