That's one odd engine conversion... 😅

I watched the video the other day and think what DPUK has done is brilliant different to all the boring engine swaps that are so common and still keeping it British didn't sound to different from a old Tdi too 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Yeah I get it might not be your cup of tea but personally I think it's great yeah it might not have tons of power but it will go on forever and it's different but it's also the first one he's done so will always be room for improvement 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Very interesting, I’d imagine JCB could make a lot of money on engines to be retrofitted to older models. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

First he's done? I thought that was all his channel did was engine swaps pretty much? As for go forever..... well so do Tdi's and Td5's really. Plenty of both with more than quarter million miles on. I'm not knocking it as an idea, but for a low annual milage urban run about (which is all he has built really). I'm betting it isn't value for money. |

the 150hp value isn't really that relevant, hp numbers are normally quite low for agri/industrial engines as are low revving (and Power = Torque x Speed). The 650Nm torque output for that engine is not to be sniffed at however! 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Thanks , But I do know what the equation for power is, you need to add a /5252
BHP = Torque x rpm / 5252 But torque is only part of the equation, for a good road vehicle you generally want some Bhp too. 150hp is fine, but nothing you can't get with a Tdi or Td5. And HP will mostly dictate acceleration. If this was 1986 and the only LR diesel was the 19j with 89hp, then 150hp and a load of torque would be something. But it isn't 1986, it is 2024. If all you want is 600nm, then the 6.5 Detroit Diesel V8 has been a popular swap in years past and would offer up 200+hp with the torque too. Although most would feel this old hat and too heavy in 2024. The JCB engine is cool, but I'd guess must weigh similar to the Detroit with less power and a hugely more cost. |

Having just rebuilt a Perkins industrial engine out of my JCB the "over engineering" on it is astonishing, the sump (bearing in mind this is a NON-structural sump) weighs the same as my 300Tdi block. It's a lump of 1" thick cast steel.
The main difference between an industrial engine and a road going engine is the industrial engine is rated for 150hp/650Nm continuously, an automotive engine is only normally rated to run at full power for about 10% of its lifetime. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

That’s a very good point about the continuous duty cycle of an Agri engine. Very few automotive engines are ever asked to produce even close to their maximum outputs for any length of time. I have a car that has nearly 500 bhp and the bhp display says it’s producing 6QB hip at 70mph on the motorway.
A 150 bhp tractor with the PTO driving a big implement up and down a field is using pretty much the rated output continuously for hour after hour. 2011 130 Utility Body 2005 110 Van |

Having seen quite a few of his videos, his business is essentially an engineering shop who specialises in Mercedes based engine conversion and tuning parts, which are shipped to enthusiasts worldwide. I’d say that this conversion is more because you can rather than because it’s better and it’s possibly a way of showcasing different possibilities. If I was to see it I’d be able to spend hours chatting about the pros and cons, sometimes less is more. At the end of the day a JCB engine in a Land Rover must be up there with the coolest conversions, if only for it’s uniqueness. Great job I’d say. 1983 110 automatic OM606

I did not miss out /5252 at all, it was stated as a unitless equation so was totally correct in context. You would only use /5252 when working in lbft anyway which I dont as I live and work in the metric world! 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |
