I signed up for a trek and have just returned home.. 4500 miles and 162 gallons of diesel.. A ferry to santander..and basically head for marakesh.. From there into the atlas mountains...sown the spine of the atlas into the south.. Foum-zguid...zagora...merzouga..around the erg chebbi dunes and then a return to tanger via fes and chefchaoune.. Ferry cancelled on way back so a ride up through France for the shuttle.. All the vehicles did make it back but not entirely incident free.. A mitsibushi l200 with overheating gearbox.. a discovery 4 with a failed ride height compressor..a couple of wheels and rims destroyed and a bit suspension work carried out on a couple of vehicles.. My one issue was a lp fuel pipe laeking at a joint after hitting a couple of potholes on a Spanish motorway.. obviously I'd not secured it the last time I'd been working on it..lost about a gallon or more fuel before the vehicle behind flagged up an issue.. The desert driving was fantastic...but there was a lot of tarmac involved..a bit to much for my liking.. If I was to go again it would be in a smaller group and I'd want a more leisurely pace and more time spent in the desert area.. Some pictures ๐ Click image to enlarge |

I was in my defender 110..2014 2.2tdci..
Ive not been into the southern desert areas before, but the lad guiding said he hadn't seen it as green before.. We managed the river crossings..very little water but there was evidence of some severe flooding fairly recently.. bridges or the concrete structures that fill in as crossing points washed away.. Even the road through the atlas was well washed out in places.. Many communities still sleeping under canvas or in portacabins from the earthquakes of a few years back..i |

We are going to travel in Morocco again but only with a couple of friends as the last trip we did was going at a far too fast pace and we struggled to keep up at the cost of not stopping to enjoy the country.
We did a much slower route back and had a great time. Love the photos and the write up ... truly itchy feet just now planning and prepping for the trip! Out of curiosity, Which vehicles damaged their rims? the big river is the Draa not been this full in over 10- 20 yrs the locals told us.
you can see how the tarmac has been lifted off the road and thrown some distance into the desert |

Hi.. the two wheels that were destroyed were .one of a discovery 4...most probably because the tyre went down completely after we Aired down to go into the sand and it was driven flat for to long.. The second was a Toyota hi lux which I think hit a rock at speed and destroyed the wheel..but I wasn't there at the time so that's just from conversation.. |

There is major work going on on the road down the spine of the atlas mountains..it's a track and washed out in places , but in a few years it will be a tarmac surface and undoubtedly not be as interesting from a off road point of view.. |

This photo is Moroccan equivalent of standing there holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It's got to be done! I've got 2 photos of my car over the same pit and quite a few of my friends have to. Good memories 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Is that your adventure? If so, can I ask - what make of rock sliders are they and how difficult was it to make them fit with the adventure underbody/side protection plates please? it looks very smart. thank you.
