It's raining Men - Gush of water out of my exhaust
Hello everyone,

Maybe you'll find it easy, but I have to admit that I'm having a bit of a problem.

For information, my former mechanic worked on my car at the beginning of the year, changing quite a few things, including fitting an Allisport radiator and intercooler.

Anyway, to explain, on days of very heavy rain (and God knows, in the south-west of France, in winter, near the ocean, it's pretty common), or after days of very heavy rain, when I start my 300Tdi, a huge gush of water comes out of my exhaust. Water that's a little dull, muddy, gray, sometimes a little brown. I don't understand how, with the hood closed and the car stationary, the water can seep through and end up in the muffler like that.

Inevitably, when starting up, the engine coughs before expelling the water (like a human being with a nasty cough). The kilometers following start-up are spent with white smoke, which, in view of what's happening, may seem normal, given that there's water or humidity in the pipes.

Can anyone give me a clue or tell me where to look?

Thank you and have a nice day.

Could it be condensation in the exhaust, perhaps due to the humidity in the air near the ocean? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

I thought about it, but it's more than condensation, it's really like a geyser when I turn on the engine. I will try to make a video next time!

If you are not loosing coolant, then it would be possible for water to run into the exhaust end pipe.
Try putting a plastic bag over the end of the exhaust pipe when you park up.
Don’t forget to remove it before starting again Rolling Eyes

But what I don't understand is where the water is seeping in. The car has been parked in the same spot for several years, has been through a few winter storms here and I've never had this happen before. I'll wait for the next heavy rain and tape a bag to the exhaust pipe.

(Currently making a rain dance, to make it pour)
