RDX Electric Fan wiring
Hello,

In need of some advice and guidance.

I have a RDX Electric Fan to fit to my 200tdi. Fitting it up should be fine, however i am concerned about the wiring.

It’s not helpful that the kit doesn’t come with any instructions. Is anyone able to give me a step by step guide to wiring? Id like to wire it to an ignition wire, but what am i meant to be looking for to do that?

wire it through a relay but i think its best not to ignition switch it (just my opinion) as the fans can run still cooling the engine for a few mins after switching off.

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply.

Okay, a relay is provided in the kit.

If i dont wire into the ignition, wouldn't the fan be live all the time, or is that where a relay comes in?

Would you be able to do a step by step of what would need to be done to wire it in with a relay please?

Wire from battery via a fuse through the temp switch to the relay as a trigger. Then a fused supply from the battery through the relay to the fan motor. Earth's locally or back to battery (which is what I do).
Use good quality waterproof connectors to improve reliability.
This way will keep the fan live after you've turned off the ignition but will turn off once lower temp is reached.

mine is temp controlled i have drilled and tapped the thermostat housing and fitted a sender into it. the wiring is a permanent live to the sender then a wire from the sender to the relay this is the switch wire the other three wires on the relay one goes to earth one goes to a permanent live then one goes to the fan. the fan also needs an earth all permanent lives are fused.i hope this makes sense. mine is in a 2 door range rover fitted with a 200tdi.
