I’m the one on the Facebook group that has the rolling backwards defender. You shared info on consumer info for faulty vehicles. Didn’t think it would get to this but after 2 repair attempts and more damage to the car I’m rejecting. Still waiting for JLR decision as I’ve requested an AVC (assisted vehicle change).
It also has squealing ventilation fans and the EPB release is very noisy. Quite a few little electric gremlins but not sure if this is just PIVI pro. It did start when I pressed start again and I just put it down to one of the gremlins the vehicle has. First time ever I’ve bought a brand new car so total disappointment for me 5th Land Rover and the previous second hand ones has been better! Didn't want to create a new thread, as I have observed a similar issue on a number of occasions, so I'll post my points here.
My car with under 1000 miles did not start its engine a few times, the dashboard lit up and pivi initiated all the usual welcome screens, but the car didn't start. Had to turn the ignition off and try again and it worked on a second attempt. Didn't pay much attention until I saw the OP reporting something possibly similar. I then noticed that if I push and hold the start button instead of just pressing it the engine always starts. The manual says that this is the procedure after refuelling (?). Subsequently, I purchased a battery tester and a trickle charger, admittedly, I don't how to perform a 100% accurate test, so just went ahead with a default: 500CCA Click image to enlarge Cranking Test Click image to enlarge Charging Test Click image to enlarge And finally connected car's battery to the noco charger, it states the battery current status was under 50%. Click image to enlarge Is there anything of a concern or should I be doing something differently? Admittedly, not entirely sure how to run the battery diagnostics. Is that the state of affairs with these new Defenders that the battery is not up to the task without maintenance? |

Afternoon all
I no longer own an L663 Defender, but the starting issue was affecting several owners in 2021. Mine displayed this issue. It would power up and everything was normal, but when you pressed the Start button nothing happened. However, it would always start on the third push of the button. It happened randomly. It would be fine for weeks, then there would be a few days it wouldn't start until the third attempt. |

Interesting that my Defender received an over the air update yesterday taking it to version 4.2.1 and the notes say it’s mainly to do with rectification of a fail to start scenario following cranking of the engine, and better management of the battery management system (BMS). 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

I noticed the new update was available today, after two weeks from the first reported download. Wonder if it's because I trickle charged the battery and the car can now perform the update?
Indeed, the wording on the software update seems to be addressing the very engine cranking issue. |

Hope yours is resolved Rob. Mine did it again today and thankfully my husband was in the car to witness it so I knew it wasn’t anything I’d done! It also did the software update earlier this week so that’s not resolved the issue.
It is being collected on Wednesday so it will be the dealers problem and probably to poor unfortunate person who buys it as a used vehicle with none of the faults resolved MY25 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - REJECTED MY18 Discovery 5 3.0ltr TD6 HSE Lux - Derek |

So far so good. I am pressing the pedal and button firmly and maintaining pressure until it fires so that I have a baseline

I did charge up the battery with a trickle charger and have been maintaining a similar routine, brake firmly pressed and push and hold the start button for 3 seconds.
Pivi pro update to the latest version, but only after topping up the battery. So far so good. |
