id put money on it been someone very local, on the sniff around for stuff, rather than an event. I have seen a few posts on face book, chavs trying doors and cars at night. I think with the shock of your nan been in the room, and you, your dad and brother, He grabbed a set of car keys and just bailed out of the area.
My former supervisor, the same year my car was stolen, he had the similar thing, he caught him red handed, and he had the arsehole by the throat, till the police came. The arsehole was from a very local scum family. Which has a name for theft and burglary, we suspected it may have been the same people who took my 300. As we were all from the same area, the arsehole was later found at it again, while on bail, this time he was found down Middlesbrough.

As blackwolf says, id check the car over just in case its been planted with a magic device if its been parked, this is also a classic car theft trick too, a story i read, that a family had been to a car show, and were waken that night, due to the car been loaded on a transporter. Still its quite hard to believe that people do this stuff just for money, and realistically as a society its not easy to fix this, but you have to keep faith in humanity and society!
