Theft/attempted theft but lessons learned.
Had an incident last night.

We were broken into last night - someone entered the house using a loop through the post box to open the front door.

They triggered a silent alarm at 04:20 so my father, brother and I were upstairs getting ready come down.

They entered the dining room where they must have heard us upstairs and seen my nan sleeping in the front room so ran off without getting anything more than my dads car keys.

They drove off with my dad’s (white) Kia sportage (EA65 YSK) just as we came down probably lucky for them as we had armed ourselves knowing our nan was down there.

Luckily my partner keeps the keys to my car at her house and add in the fact that Lucinda is broken down (got two flats, starter motor gone and battery gone).

The lesson for all is that no matter how much security you have on your car you always need security at home, as extra security is useless if they have your keys.

I believe that due to the timing of the theft it was (either directly ir indirectly) related to Sundays event in London which we attended.
Not saying it was someone at the event, but maybe someone took a photo of my plate?
Otherwise Lucinda is mostly immobilised or stored at work and in its current state appears to rarely move, so maybe confirmed as a runner by Sundays event?

Anyway stay safe out there. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

Wow, its a huge emotional experience knowing your safety and privacy has been violated. At least you all have a good few people around you to support and get support from.

I hope you get over this experience quickly and continue to feel safe in your own home.

Still its quite hard to believe that people do this stuff just for money, and realistically as a society its not easy to fix this, but you have to keep faith in humanity and society!

I'd take a really good look at the underneath to check that you haven't gained a magnetic GPS tracker to lead the scumbags to your door.

Sorry to hear that.

Scurge. They require euthanasia by any means necessary.

id put money on it been someone very local, on the sniff around for stuff, rather than an event. I have seen a few posts on face book, chavs trying doors and cars at night. I think with the shock of your nan been in the room, and you, your dad and brother, He grabbed a set of car keys and just bailed out of the area.
My former supervisor, the same year my car was stolen, he had the similar thing, he caught him red handed, and he had the arsehole by the throat, till the police came. The arsehole was from a very local scum family. Which has a name for theft and burglary, we suspected it may have been the same people who took my 300. As we were all from the same area, the arsehole was later found at it again, while on bail, this time he was found down Middlesbrough.

As blackwolf says, id check the car over just in case its been planted with a magic device if its been parked, this is also a classic car theft trick too, a story i read, that a family had been to a car show, and were waken that night, due to the car been loaded on a transporter. The car was checked over, and they did find a tracker planted. Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

We have the same thing at track days, people sticking cheap gps magnets under the trailer so they know where it's going.
Less than a tenner to buy and traceless.

What is being described isn't a simple burglary/robbery.

It's a home invasion.

Not sure if its legal over there (not sure why it wouldn't be) but it behooves anyone to install a simple kill switch in their vehicles that completely disables the electrical system unless a hidden switch (or in my case, a hidden switch and a PIN code) is toggled.

They're simple enough to install and will keep even the most determined thieves from stealing your ride.

Not sure if you can get a simple vehicle tracking device like we have over here such as www.ridedog.com but something like that is relatively inexpensive and gives you peace of mind knowing that even if the scumbags make off with your pride and joy - you can track them down with your security assistant from West Germany Sauer, and his all too capable Swiss partner Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (we call him Sig for short) and indulge in a little remote hole punching. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package
