I agree.
If RBS went pear-shaped, and Alex had re-built Hadrian's Wall, Scotland would be bankrupt like Iceland, Greece and Italy now. RBS employs (directly and indirectly) about 1 in 10 people living in Scotland... Ten years ago, Scotland had many "Corporate" companies with HQ's here, loads have disappeared: Scottish Hydro...swallowed up by Scottish & Southern Scottish Widows - now part of Lloyds Bank of Scotland - now part of Lloyds Scottish Power & Scottish Telecom - not sure where they are now? Scottish Life - demutualised in 2001, now Royal London Group Scottish Amicable - swallowed by Pru RBS is about the only major institution I can think of who have reveresed this trend. Scotland is not in great shape, and with Public Sector fiasco's like 10x overspend on Scottish Parliament and the Edinburgh Tram cock-up, it's not looking good! I LOVE Scotland, and do not want to appear a Scotland-basher, but this is stark reality It DOES upset me. But I agree, Salmond is dangerous, we can't all live on Whisky & Oil revenues up here Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Last time I checked, Scottish Power was owned by Power Iberica, or something similar, a Spanish firm anyway. 2011 110 USW

Greece isn't bankrupt! Goddess Merkel would have told me... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Pre economic crisis, Salmond wanted to mirror an independent Scotland on the Celtic Tiger of Eire.
Just as well he did not get a chance to do that. His very soul stops him mirroring ANYTHING on England & the rest of the UK, be they right or wrong. He could not feasibly argue that an independent Scotland should mirror Europe (even though he insists that Scotland would automatically become members of the EU - wrong - and would not have to automatically use the Euro - wrong again). He thinks Scotland would automatically be members of the UN & NATO - wrong on both counts - not that he would ever do anything in support of the latter - being the only serving party leader to EVER criticise our armed forces whilst they were engaged in action, and retain his position - ref NATO in the Balkans Now he wants an independent Scotland to mirror Scandinavia (well he IS running out of places to copy). But not once has he explained that ignoring the land, what about the infrastructure he would "inherit" - all the hospitals, schools, public buildings, streets etc. What about the armed forces - would they all just automatically become Scotland's Army, Navy & Air Force? And how would he pay to equip them, or does he think all the gear comes FOC? How would he pay back the money spent rescuing RBS & BoS? He bases his argument on some extremely woolly economics which he claims would have Scotland as the 6th wealthiest country in the world, per capita. All based on a finite resource. Which he would have to tax so high to pay for all his schemes that shale gas would seem cheap as chips. The same finite resource which he also argues we should move away from and go "green". Well Alec, if demand drops, your budgets are in the toilet. He is so confident of winning a referendum, that he refuses to call one, and when it does come, he won't have just a single question with a yes/no answer. He is breaking is own electoral rules regarding donations, by accepting millions for his independence campaign. He wants to spend millions in public money to do up an Edinburgh public building to be his "White House" (apt, as he sees himself as Presidential - ALEC1 can only be a short time away), ignoring the fact that he lives very well already in an Edinburgh public building. Add that to the recent history of spending public money in Edinburgh (Holyrood Parliament - £500m - over 12 times over budget, and rising - windows were £120k each, with a lifetime of 10 years - trams now going to be over £1.2BILLION and not even half the route promised when the budget was set at less than 20% of the final total) - can anyone really take any spending in Edinburgh seriously. So all in all, to call Salmond a muppet might seem a flippant comment. But in truth, that would be extremely unfair..... To the Muppets! 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

Salmond is 20X more dedicated than the DC we have starving us of money via Westminster.. the day England has a PM as devoted is a long way off. You can meet 10 David Camerons in any wine bar in London any day of the week... Now what scandal can you conjure up about Alex??? Friggin Lib-Dems and Tories are mostly friggin sexual deviants or Gay. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Salmond is dedicated to one person & one theme only, and that is Salmond.
And as for your comments towards the end of your post - maybe better posted somewhere like the KKK or Nazi sites - you know, where that sort of hatred is accepted. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

Found out a few days ago that my son has been mugged and beaten up in Cambridge
So I'm actually glad my daughter is studying in Glasgow What I do think quite funny is that in the Munich International School there are always arguments (also in lessons) between the English kids and everyone else. The English kids insist that England is a different country from Scotland and Wales and all the other kids take the I'm sure there's a point in there somewhere but I haven't quite figured it out... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
