I had my Defender two years and 36000 miles, half of which was fast trips across Europe carry equipment. As lovely as it was to drive and be in, I found its practicality limited. The boot was small, I found the rear door affected loading and the opening to the boot was narrow. I did look at a 130 but it's just big with the same issues. As for a D5, it's just not me or us as a family. My wife named the car Noddy becuase she thought it a noddy car because of its lack of practicality Rolling Eyes

From a technology / day to day use perspective I used Apple Carplay, the winter pack (heated steering wheel and rear seats), the 40:20:40 split seats, DAB, air suspension and low / high range and it helped being EU6. All of those I can have on a D4 with increased practicality.

I know the doom mongers will be commenting on snapped cranks, reliability and maintenance costs etc. but I plan to keep this for five years and I'm happy to replace the engine etc if need be. The depreciation alone on the Defender will pay for a lot of repairs and maintenance on a D4 and I'm not one for having a car as a status symbol etc.

From a man maths point of view I paid £17k for the D4 with an amazing service history and all the known issues fixed and Carplay and a heated steering wheel fitted. I sold the Defender for £48k, so with the difference I'll keep £10k in a savings pot for any repairs and put the rest into either an ISA or my pension.

At the end of all that I get a car that gives me what I want for how I/ we use it as a family.

Anyway, lots of bits for sale....... Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

I've never been convinced by the boot and door, it's just one of those things. I'm quite surprised on the various forums and online groups how many have done something similar.

Anyway, lots to sell......... Thumbs Up

Looking forward to seeing pictures of the D4 Mr. Green

I think you have cashed out of the Defender at the right time. Their bubble has burst in the last few months. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

D4 is a lovely vehicle. My friend changed his for a Defender 110 but misses the D4 for the same reasons you mentioned.

There's things you can do to reduce the chances of engine failure on the 3.0 V6
