Auto relock if drivers door isn't opened or if the interior light switch is faulty the alarm/locking will think the door hasn't been opened...

There is no auto-relock on a Puma (thank goodness).

The usual reason for a Puma (or TD5) to spontaneously relock is due to the driver's door lock mechanism being stiff, either through freezing or through gunge, and not fully unlocking. The "lock" switch on the mechanism can then tell the 10AS to relock the vehicle. The answer usually is to lubricate the lock mechanisms.

Incidentally it is never a good idea to open a Puma or TD5, put your keys on the seat or anywhere in the vehicle including the ignition, and then close the door especially in cold weather, for precisely the reasons you have found. My Puma has never done this spontaneous locking malarky but on cold days when de-icing I start the engine and either leave a door open or leave a window open far enough to reach in for the lock button, just to be on the safe side.

As blackwolf says. The drivers door doofa gets lazy and locks all the doors. Worse when cold. A new CL actuator and all good.

Mines late 2007 and will re lock if the drivers door isn't opened. when we return to the car with the supermarket trolley, I remotely unlock the doors, swmbo opens the drivers door whilst I open the back door and start loading the shopping, has always done it and is regardless of temperature.

As its getting older and more temperamental it does sometimes do funny things, but I believe that the 10As can be programmed to relock or not if required.

I've just checked and auto-relock is a configurable option on the 10AS : " Plip relock: When set to ENABLED the alarm will relock the CDL after a short time if the ignition has not been turned on after it was unlocked using the plip."

The unusual aspect of this, assuming that the above (from Black Box Solution's user data) is correct, is that it will auto-relock even if you have opened a door (most vehicles in my experience only auto-relock if no doors have been opened). This is problematical, and I would suggest could be the OP's problem.

Any competent diagnostic tool, such as Nanocom, should be able to change this setting. Ickle, I suspect that someone has changed your settings after the vehicle left the factory.

Mine did that with the engine running when I was in front of a nice line of people waiting for me to move.. It has never done it again, but I must say that most of the time the key now stays in my pocket whenever I get out Rolling with laughter Making my Defender great again. (Or trying to at least xD)

Yep. That was the same with me. Line of us leaving a nice green lane. Jumped out to chat to someone, and then it locked its self. Engine running, and my phone on the dash holder.

Since then, keys in pocket, or window open a bit. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Again never did it since

no c/l on mine but I do keep a spare door key in my wallet - just a flat job from Timpsons, not the factory issue full fat version

It won't do it again until the day you forget to open the window or have the key in your pocket. The Defender will know, and will strike the instant the opportunity arises! Rolling with laughter

Someone I used to work with had a Rover 214 (or similar) which had the same tendency. He stopped on the double-yellows outside the bank to use the cash machine, and the car immediately locked him out. Engine running, keys and phone in the car. Busy road, double yellows. He wasn't a happy person but we all thought it was hilarious!
