Headlamp and front park sensors.
Finally got my Defender home yesterday. The left hand headlamp drl went out, and the front parking sensors packed up.

There was a red box around the PDC display showing an error, and the sensors at the front were not working.

The headlamp fix was easy but very expensive. £1800 plus labour plus vat for the headlamp.

PDC needed a new bumper wiring loom and a new sensor, which needed painting.

All this added up to an eye watering bill of over £3000. 😧

Thankfully even thought the car is not in warranty (ran out last January) but has only covered 32k miles, LR paid 80% of parts bill.

Still cost me £770 to get it fixed. One positive though, it was cheaper than a warranty would have been! Beware those with select warranty, it would not have fully covered this bill.

The price of future repairs is making me question keeping this car. I was hopeful that the quality was better than my previous 5 Discovery’s but the two failures just experienced have told me otherwise.

I could buy a warranty, but that would be over £1500 for one that would cover a claim over £3k. As the car is out of warranty now, it would need a £370 inspection fee to get one.

Really finding it hard to persuade my financial controller (aka wife) why we should keep it! 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

How did you get LR to cover 80% of the parts cost? Have read that in other threads too...

Car complexity is becoming an issue for consumers. Buyers are wary about out of warranty issues so have been holding back and the reluctance of independent garages to invest in diagnostics and constant software upgrades able to diagnose more and more complex cars. That coupled with cost of living and wariness of EVs is creating an aging fleet.

My wife has never been convinced by my Defender, hence its name Noddy. I've decided to sell my Defender and go back to old school and get a Euro 6 D4.

As good as the Defender is, I've never reconciled myself to the small boot and rear door opening. Besides, the D4 is equally capable and with Apple Carplay I get everything I need. As for snapping cranks, I'll get a good warranty on it and worst case, bite the built for a new engine. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Forgive me, I am seeing again the old states of panic, typical LR, that I already lived with the D3 back in 2006, 2007…etc old memories… I have this Defender 23,5 MY delighted with life today… if it becomes an unbearable mushroom it will go away when the time comes… but until then, if it happens, I refuse to live bitter and depressed once again… I would never consider buying a D3/4, forgive me Moo, Even less so if at the time of purchase I were admitting the remote possibility of having to put in another engine, if necessary, with perhaps the same conceptual flaw, for the love of God...will could be If that meant a package that would make me 20 years younger… otherwise, not a chance I would do such a thing today! In the meantime I say: I LOVE MY DEFENDER WITH THE MISERABLE D250 WITH LITTLE POWER TO TOW AND DOESN’T EVEN MAKE A SHADOW TO A D350 AND EVEN LESS TO A V8… and I know it!! Ruben, don’t panic! Yours is still new and has a warranty. I would also hope that yours is built with better components than mine.

There are a few rumours going around that cars built in the covid pandemic era, when the manufacturers were facing huge problems getting components, chips, led’s etc. are showing quality issues. Mine is a covid built car and does not have things like ambient lighting, cooler box because LR couldn’t supply them.

I didn’t ask for 80% off. It was offered almost as soon as the car was dropped off at the dealer. The only comment I made before it was offered, was to suggest that these faults should not be happening on such a young and little used car, and the fact that LR have made a headlamp that cannot be repaired in any way, and is so ridiculously expensive does not make for good customer relations. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

It happens all the time! the disgusting modern times? For example, I've had to replace a 2009 27" 1T iMac twice due to a faulty graphics card... after wasting money reballing it both times, because Apple simply considered it obsolete and was unable to continue offering it to its customers... and the worst thing is... I continued buying iMacs because they are simply the best!! Defender 110 SE I6 D250 23MY

The DRLs going out were a very common issue - and one of the only at that. You really don't need to be that worried in my opinion - and, again in my opinion, they are built well.

Yes I saw that. Still a £350 job by the time you’ve bought all the bits needed. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV
