USA Defender 2020 and InControl outside US region
I purchased a 2020 Land Rover Defender 110 from the United States during my studies there. The InControl app was working efficiently, and the car was paired with no issues. However, the story took a turn when I shipped the car to the UAE. Upon arrival, I tried to pair and link my car to the InControl system, but all my attempts were unsuccessful. Additionally, the Wi-Fi feature also stopped working.

I created a new account with the UAE as the region, hoping to link the car to it, but I couldn’t make it work. Despite trying various methods, none were successful. After doing some research on forums, I read that I might need to replace the TCU (Telematics Control Unit) in the car. This is something I’m considering, but I have a question for those with experience: If I replace the TCU with one compatible with the region, will it work? Are there programming methods that could enable this option?

Yes, I have removed the car from my U.S. account. The account was working fine, but I was facing an issue with the map and location services. After removing the car and trying to add it to my UAE account, it is not accepting it, and the reason is mentioned above.

Hello dear, i was having the same issue but it worked for me know.

But in my scenario its little bit different.

i bought a 2023 used certified defender from Land rover New Jersey in the state and I ship it all the way to Kuwait city and what I did actually I try to link the VIN number in the incontrol website using my Kuwaiti ID that was just created to my defender and it says that the car was linked to another account so I contact Land rover and attach my car new registration showed that the car new owner is me. what they did is that they revoke the defender VIN from the older account and keep it free so i can link it to mine. then I access the incontrol website using my Kuwaiti incontrol account Kuwait and link this US defender.

in the linking progress the defender wasn't connected to any mobile or wifi data. and it was turned off in the setting. through the process it succeeded linking the defender to my incontrol account and it give me a message that some services may not be full functioning because I'm using the defender in another region but at the end it's worked and I can open my in control app in my mobile and I can control the car fully .

although the car is not connected to a Wi-Fi or the eSIM card data embedded in the defender, and that's my experience in that part. i hope it will be helpful.

Thank you for your response; this is very interesting.

My question is:
Did you contact the seller in the U.S. or the Land Rover USA headquarters?

Please provide me with the details if possible. Note that the car is not linked to any account, as I have removed it from the U.S. account. However, all attempts to link it to an account in the UAE have failed.

Actually i contacted LandRover Customer Care in the middle east region ( Dubai ) and they fix it for me by removing / unlinking the Defender VIN from his incontrol account and thats it. it was as simple as that ( i thought that i have to change some parts related to communication unit but it is not )

their email is ( crcmena@landrover.com )

and they replay back with some questions then after i answer they revoke it then i start over the new process of linking the defender to a new incontrol account and thats it.

i am attaching my sent email & their response for your reference.

also make sure that ( Remote ) service is working ... you can check it in the incontrol website after login to your account with your Defender linked to your account and its under the ( YOUR INCONTROL SERVICES ) tab.

Thank you for the information.
Ironically, I had previously contacted Land Rover Middle East and was informed that nothing could be done regarding this matter.
However, I reached out to them again today, and I will wait for their response.
Thank you once again!
