Removed Light Guards - What to do with the holes?
Hi all,

I've finally removed the light guards that I have never liked, but this obviously leaves me with 4 unsightly holes each side and as the title says, what should I do with these holes?

I'm thinking getting a workshop to fill them and respray, or is the easiest thing try and buy headlight panels, if the ebay gods provide, and fit those?

lt depends on how good the rest of the Defender is. lf it's a clean one, you'll need to fill the holes and spray the panels.

Otherwise blanking grommets in the holes will look alright, particularly if the Defender is a dark colour.

l would always go with the first option unless you can change the panels completely which is obviously the perfect solution.

I am in the same situation. Mine was missing when I got the truck and I haven’t gathered myself and fixed it (I was/am not short on issues to tend to). I initially wanted to buy new ones, even though I really do not have any desire to fit them - other than covering the holes. But I could not find any with a distance between the mounting holes that equals the space between the holes in my truck. If it is not to much of an inconvenience you are very welcome to post your fix, when you get it done. Maybe I will try one of the suggested solutions and post a photo.

I’ve got the guards if you want them. I ended up binning the rears, and the same will happen to the fronts.

That is very nice of you and I do indeed want them. Can you measure the space between the holes? I will gladly pay you for the handling on top of the postage.

Edit: I would like them anyway and just make them fit.

Its a pretty clean example, and I am an absolute Tart with it so trying to get it looking very tidy.

Am I looking for any half decent bodyshop to fill, or do I need to find someone handy with a TIG

I had the same issue, plus I had the holes at the back from the rear light guards. I also had a little corrosion around the window frame and window blocks. My local bodyshop filled the holes, touched up the whole front end including the window blocks and rear, plus had a new windscreen and seal fitted at the same time. He went into great detail on how the holes were filled, as they cannot just be filled with filler as they will crack later on. Can't remember what he said, but is hasn't cracked yet. All up cost me £1,300, which I was happy with. Car looks so much nicer. Thumbs Up
