If you're doing longer journeys with the family and luggage, there's almost no better car on the road than a 3.0 diesel 110. Bragging rights of the v8 are sorely diminished by the 90's very very compromised bootspace - to the point it's embarrassing that such a large car can't even accomodate a dog or check-in suitcase. Squeezing friends or family in a 90 isn't fun. Go for the big one!

I can imagine the 90 would be fun to own in V8 form.

However any holiday / big journey / daily school run / shopping if you are a family of 4 would soon get annoying. The boot really is small and having to move the passenger seat forward each time in and out... You could do it, but would the novelty of the V8 be dampened by the fact its missing room.

How about a different option a second hand D300 / D250 110 and the £20,000 or so saved on buying a new D350 towards a nice fun weekend car (with maybe a VCool

example...

Best of All world, nice comfy big 110 for the family holidays, trips to forest, bikes, camping etc the V8 for weekend and the small car for school runs and local trips Smile

Can you not drop the middle rear seat and access the rear seats through the boot of a 90? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

V8 all day! I wish I had bought the v8! Not much difference in MPG compared
To the 300d!

The difference is around 10mpg. Although on the highway/motorway the diesel will do 40mpg

Depending on how you drive it you can possibly hit 40mpg with the diesel.
However my average with the 300d has been 28/30mpg during the summer and now that is colder 25/27 mpg. Not much more than the best possible sound track of the V8!

In the V8 I usually get around 15 mpg or less.

I was going to say, just like the diesel to get real good fuel figures out of V8 you need to hyper mile the thing. Normal driving, just like the diesel is much less economical. I have owned several V8s LR and other makes (not in Europe obviously) and at best got about 11l/100km (26 UKmpg) on a long gentle run but more typically it was 16-17l/100km (16.5UKmpg) mixed traffic.

And no fuel economy of your typical ICE has not really improved much.

On a run l can get 40mpg out of my 2022 3.0 Diesel without "hypermiling" l just stick to the 60/70mph speed limits.

Around the city driving normally my average is 25mpg. lf l drive really carefully l can get 28-30mpg but l've also replaced the standard tyres with Wranglers and apparently this means a 10% reduction in economy.

I think it's about right. With the Michelins l was getting nearer 28mpg in city driving but they were hopeless in mud or wet grass.

Plus the Wranglers do look better on the Defender lMO.

The 90 is next to useless for family use - the boot is ridiculously small - they are only suitable for a couple and occasional 4 seater use - going on holiday with 4 people and luggage wouldn’t be pleasant - I’d stick with the 110 or find a s/h V8 110

l would also agree with the above. lf there's more than two of you the 110 is the way to go. Sure, you could do it in a 90 if you really didn't want the 110. But you might need a roof box.

The 110 V8 would be my preferred option but wat over what I want to pay.

I originally ordered an M3 Touring, £83k after discount. That is my magic number now switching to a Defender. That will stretch to 12-18 months 90 V8 but nowhere near a decent 110 V8.

You don't need to spend that to get the Defender you want. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

The 110 obviously has more room but the 90 isn't "next to useless"

lt does have a boot, and you can always fold one of the rear seats down. Best to see if you can get one to try for a few hours.

Ultimately the decision is yours.

If you can live with the 90 then go for it, looks better and IMO is more fun to drive. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue
