Oil pan of puma
Hello,

I have a question for you guys:

When should the strainer in the oil pan be cleaned? And at what km or miles should you replace the oil pump on a TDCI?

When should the strainer in the oil pan be cleaned - Should be never unless you use very poor oil quality that generates a lot of sludge.

And at what km or miles should you replace the oil pump on a TDCI - Depends if it is a 2.4 or a 2.2. The variable flow / vane pumps on the 2.2 are a bit fragile, and I some recommend replacing every 60kmiles. The 2.4 is the more reliable and more common / old design of gear pump, and they are very robust. However both are chain driven. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

There was a recall on the 2.2 oil pump, so if you have a 2.2 it’s worth checking if it’s subject to the recall and it’s been done.

Up to you really. Mine's now done over 277k miles and the strainers never been cleaned and the pumps never been changed. I have no reason to believe that either needs doing.

The sump came off once in the first year of the vehicle's existence but that was only because it was built with the style of sump that the front prop shaft can rupture , so LR replaced it with the later version FOC when pushed.

This is of course a 2.4 - I don't think I would ever buy a 2.2, it is too much of a backward step.

The pan itsself seems à bit thin and not well corrosion protected.

That's my concern when I look in that area...

Several people on this forum have had them rust through as I recall.
