A bit more progress recently, engine and box in, most of the axles/brakes done. Steering box has been reconditioned since. Rather helped take my mind off a recent bereavement...

That's looking superb, lovely work!
Those look like Michelin XS tyres, unless I'm much mistaken (entirely possible!), an interesting choice for the UK. Are they what the electricity board fitted? |

The boards did fit them back in the day, but in this case the tyres came with the wheels and I happened to find some NOS ones to make a set. Not sure they were fitting them when this was in service but you never know. The few photos I have are not clear enough to define the tyre pattern. EMEB were certainly fitting them in 900R16 to 1 Tonners in the 70s. SEB fitted these and XCLs to 90s 110s & 127s but mainly XCLs. 2011 110 USW

XCLs wouldn't have surprised me, being a mud tyre (and a very good one as well). XS did surprise me since it is a specialist sand tyre and I wouldn't have thought that vehicles in the UK spent enough time in sandy terrain to make it worthwhile. It is a very long time since I last saw a Land-Rover on a set, which is why it caught my eye.
It looks superb and you should be rightly proud of that! |

I can't speak for SEB but EMEB went to them as being a radial they were better handling. I've got photos to prove they were fitted. The only SEB one I've got is a 127 with luton body.
I expect my 88" would have been built on 7.50x16 Dunlop T28s. But they have long since vanished. We know it was on 7.50s due to the speedo head. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |
