110 Crew Cab Conversion to Soft Top - Insurance
I have a 2012 110 crewcab which I want to convert to a soft top. Just discussed this with a the insurer and they tell me I need a report which will go to underwriters.

Now the issues I foresee could be I have the work done then they decline cover. I am sourcing the frame from a reputable supplier and supplied the trade and likewise with the canvas.

The intention I do as much as possible.

Does anyone have any experience with a conversion.

When I did my 90 NFU asked me for a copy of the invoice for the frame and canvas and a copy of the invoice from my installer and it wasn't an issue at all, but can't comment if it is a diy install.

I also changed it at DVLA to convertible Rob

1993 200tdi 90 hard-top
1998 300tdi 90 soft-top
2016 2.2 XS 90 hard-top (sold)

I recently declared my soft top conversion with NFU, didnt get asked for any invoices or anything, only question I was asked was if there was a change in value of the vehicle but was very painless and no change in premium either

What exactly are you changing from-to?

110 crew cab is a four-door pickup?

Are you intending to convert to a 4 door soft top, which is a non-standard conversion using aftermarket parts that are presumably not type approved in any way?

My 110 was converted from 3dr van to ex-military full canvas before I bought it (exactly what I was intending to do anyway) but using all landrover standard factory parts, so my insurance have never questioned this. You may have problems with non-specialist insurers who don't understand the modular construction of the old Defenders and how they can be easily reconfigured. In fact I once prepared a fact sheet, with pictures to send to an insurance broker to explain the various body styles (swb/lwb/stationwagon/truck cab/van/ragtop/hi-cap/etc). They still didn't get 'it' and didn't get my business.

Once you move away from the basic standard models (if there is such a thing for a Defender?) you are almost certainly into the realms of the specialist insurance providers.

All sorted with insurance company, they require copies of invoices of the soft top conversion.
