2.4 intercooler hose slipping and whooshing
I have a problem with the RH intercooler hose (PNH500670) slipping down from its to turbo connection. I know when this happens because of the whooshing/whistling I get from the leak. Leave it too long and and it drops far enough to be attacked by the steering column. It used to be a while before this happened, but now is just a few days before it starts slipping down. I have been using replacement genuine hoses that come with the fastening clips attached, and ensure these are tightened right up.

Could it be a problem with the fastenings (I have tried two genuine parts replacements) or could it be indicative of another problem, forcing it off?

btw, I have a BAS re-map and larger intercooler.

Make sure the inside of the hose is very clean and free from oil, also make sure the spigot on the turbo is very clean and free from oil. Brake cleaner is useful for this.

Regarding hose clamps. The HCL super torque or MIkalor ASFA High torque clamps are good and can take 11-12 Nm, which should be sufficient to retain a clean hose on a clean turbo spigot.

Many thanks, I have ordered some of those clamps.

The hose is new, so any oil will be recent. I do remember seeing some oil when I removed the old hose though.

What is the best way to clean the spigot? Do I need to remove the turbo?

Clean the spigot with cloth sprayed with brake clean.

No need to remove the turbo, just spray spigot with brake cleaner from below and above, it evaporates pretty quickly. Any bits you can’t get to with spray then spray on cloth and wipe. You can spray the inside of the hose as well, or spray on cloth and wipe.

many thanks, I have just done that, albeit with the same clamp for the time being (waiting for new ones to arrive). From what I could see, it all looked quite clean to me. Will keep a close eye on the hose and see if it moves again over the coming days.
