Have you heard this sound from the engine?
Hi everyone,
After two months of standing still, my td5 just suddenly started to make this noise just before it cuts off.
I know it’s lot a lot to go from, but anyone having a clue?
If I ignite again it will do the same process again, run a little bit and then make the noise.

Here’s a video of the sound https://youtube.com/shorts/FiDk_vPUDOw?si=D-zLkBOLtC2puHJf

Hope you get it sorted,

Check the harmonic balancer / bottom pulley and see if it’s failing.

Thank you very much for the response! Haven't found the issue yet and will have it towed to my repair guy for further investigation.

My repairman was busy till end of November, so here I am again 😅

Removed the alternator belt and ignited/ran just fine. So the issue is somewhat connected there.
All the things the belt touches seems fine by hand touch. Any ideas of further trouble shooting, or should I replace things one by one starting with the harmonic balancer?

Thank you 😘

The belt tensioner can cause a lot of noise when it begins to wear out and fail. I would start with that.

Thanks Jim!

I'll try replacing the tensioner for sure!

Edit
So I'm thinking it's either the tensioner, harmonic balancer or the PAS pump.
But not really sure there's an issue with the harmonic balancer since it doesn't make the sound without the belt but still moves during idling?

Any ideas? 🤗

Ok,
Replaced the Harmonic balanser and the belt tensioner without success.
Any other ideas? Could it some how be the generator?

Grateful for any ideas.

That's quite a noise!.... You could well see where that's coming from if you get someone to switch off while you're looking under the bonnet?
Good luck!

Can’t locate the sound even inside the engine bay. The issue occurs when the belt is mounted. Just replaced the tensioner and harmonic balancer but the noice is still present.

Did have an issue with the generator couple of years back but replaced it. Might it be something wrong somewhere that consumes the generator?

It's going to the repair shop early December Very Happy
Tried to turn the steering wheel while cranking the engine to check if the axel in the steering servo was broken. But it doesn't feel like it.

My money is on the generator some how.
Could it be that the generator is doing its thing for a couple of seconds, then overloads the system in a mysterious way?

The plot thickens 😅
