I think that people generally remembered to turn their lights on in the days when the dash illumination only came on with side and tail.lights (although I accept that there has always been a number of drivers so monumentally stupid that even this wouldn't register). Now we have dash panels which are always illuminated and the visual clue has gone.

The patch of darkness in front of the car might still be a clue though! Laughing

I had a look at the CCF and the two suggestions don't do anything.

Multican 633 "Auto light sensor" on/off" Turning it to "off" doesn't seem to make any difference.

Multican 466 listed as "light sensor sensitivity" is something else on my vehicle. l couldn't find one for "light sensor sensitivity"

l've been online looking.

There's similar complaining about the automatic headlights over on the Evoque forum and no solution so it seems there's nothing that can be done.

There’s a degree of hysteresis built into the system so it should never turn the lights on and off again quickly enough for someone to think you were flashing them.

If I drive under an area of trees on a dull enough day or into a tunnel then the lights will come on but they stay on for 5-10 seconds out the other side before going off again.

Yea you are correct it is a few seconds.

What l have found is, an anomaly in the programming.

lf you get in the vehicle and it's dark enough for the headlights to turn on immediately, you can turn them off and the system (for that journey) can be switched between auto and manual.
That is, it does what you want. You can have sidelights, headlights, or auto. Or nothing at all, no DRL's

lf you get in the vehicle and it's NOT dark enough for the headlights to turn on immediately, you can't override the automatic system.
You can't select "off" or "sidelights only" The only thing you can do is turn the headlights to "on" which means they stay on all the time.
