My 2007 300Tdi Defender
My big project this summer was buying this Defender from Armenia and getting it back to the UK. I made a whole video series about it if interested: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYy...Wn_wBRQQJm

I had to find a proxy contract to register in their name - I couldn't as I wasn't a resident. I flew out after the seller sold to my contact and took a look at it for the first time. I had 4 days to assess and get it through its roadworthiness test. Then I flew home and returned 2 weeks later with a bunch of parts.

Some photos from when I first saw it

When I flew back out, I had 14 days to get the vehicle to the UK. There was a fair amount of whining from the drivetrain but it made it in 11 days, 3,600km. I took the ferry across the Black Sea as I wouldn't be able to get into Turkey with the documentation I had seeing as I wasn't officially "the owner". I don't have a great deal of photos as I was driving so much. I have a fair bit more video though, which went into the Youtube series.

I haven't published it to Youtube yet, but there was a whole load of work after this to get it through an MOT and registered in the UK, which i'll update here about another time. LR Workshop

great journey just watched first couple of your videos

im a specialist defender trader myself so I love the chase but id also love to buy this sort of thing from Armenia and have a hell of a road trip out of it back to the UK

I keep looking at ones from South Africa but the time isn't quite right with my 3 young kids so think Eastern Europe is more feasible!

Were they a lot cheaper to buy there than UK/EU? 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

No! This was a bit of a one-off as I've been told there were only 10 Defenders in the whole country. I had an opportunity and just went for it. Had to pay 30% on top in VAT and duty to import to the UK. Overall I paid 50% of what I was prepared to pay for the same vehicle in the UK, but that's because I've been looking for a 2006 300Tdi for so long and the desire has been so great, so my budget was "up there" 😆

I've generally seen in a lot of countries, like those in Africa, that Defender prices aren't "cheap" because it's generally expats that want to buy them and there aren't that many around.

The hardest part of buying a vehicle outside of the EU is the bureaucracy regarding transfer of ownership and export. I was lucky enough to find someone to help me, otherwise it would have killed the deal dead.

I can only recommend trying to bring one back from another country as it's a great adventure! LR Workshop

Managed to get it through the MOT, documented on YT from here onwards:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hbd752X7w...p;index=15

Had to take off the roof rack to be able to get it into the tent for a better working space. The leaking steering box was the biggest bit of work that needed doing. A relief not to have to worry about corrosion related problems, although certain bits have started to "react" to the British climate....

One of the tyre valves perished through and caused a flat tyre Shocked. I've since replaced them all.

I need to get round to documenting my experience of the import process, hopefully soon. LR Workshop
