Er... I fitted a second hand original Land Rover one sealed with butyl tape all round. I dread to ask but are they any good?

I'm pretty sure that OE Land Rover ones are actually made by Mantec, so have a good pedigree. Of course, it's not made of shiny stainless steel so probably isn't strong or durable Darren

To be honest, mine is more for snow than "show" as is the vent cover. Everything gets blocked by the white sh*t for 3-4 months of the year here
... but I would like to believe it's sealed... just in case Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I had the Mantec plastic jobby on my TD5 Double Cab, I think they look the best actually, although I was never able to properly seal it which I was a bit disappointed with, but I changed function of the vehicle before I sold it, from off roader, to "cool looking" Land Rover, so it didn't bother me that it wasn't sealed after. It taught me though, and when I bought my 300tdi, I bought a brand new Safari one, and managed to seal that first time...
So, if you are getting it for show, Mantec all the way, but for proper use, a Safari, or as someone said Southdown are the way to go! 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |

Mantec on mine, and all sealed air tight. Mates that have fitted Southdown ones have suffered from air restriction problems.

well the only reason to have one, as TJ says, is to stop dust and sand etc. i have an idea that will involve adding an extra filter to the airbox with a short diverter pipe moving the air intake away from the wheel. that way i can fit it when heading south, and remove it for the rest of the year. |

same here, they only time i'll need one is in the desert, so a week out of 52. The NAKS one is better for me as i can remove it without bodywork damage. Having had a snorkel on the td5 and the mess it made to th screen surround i will not be drilling holes willy nilly in my new 110 |
