30,000 mile update D250 XS 110

Car bought new 29th June 2022. Used mainly for pleasure trips with around 7000 business miles in the mix too. Car was specified with factory 22" wheels and the larger discs and calipers as I had read of warping discs etc at 30,000 miles on the smaller discs/calipers.

Averages 1100 miles per month.

Averages 33 mpg. Varies from 28 to 40.

So far zero oil use between oil changes.

Oil & Filters changed at 9295 miles--21282 miles--30035 miles with the middle one being its 24 months or 22000 mile first full service.

I check the oil for both level and feel every month on the 1st. As its only 0W30 I am fearful of dilution more than consumption.

On the 24 month service we were at 8mm on front tyres and 7mm on rears with the front left shoulder showing the first signs of wear. So these were rotated so I could get the best life from the tyres.
The health check video proclaimed only 10% wear on the brake pads.

Saturday morning the health check video showed:-

Front tyres at 4.6mm Rears at 5.3mm. This technician gave measurements for the brake pads at 8mm fronts and 6mm rears. Slight scaling to the front discs but no lips.

Car is now on 30.035 miles on original discs, pads and tyres. I expect to get 40,000 miles from the tyres based on current wear rate and perhaps as the pads are at 6mm on the rear I may do them all at the same time but imagine that they would have lasted 50,000 miles plus.

I do drive the car gently, I warm it up on journeys, dont use boost when its cold etc. So if it continues to behave itself then I may just elect to keep it and buy the Extended Warranty.

Issues have been minimal:-

Door seals creaking = turn up the radio/spotify.

Speakers dropping out = software update and its been great since.

It doesnt like standing water and is a handful on the smaller heavily cambered roads when its raining heavily.

It is a large but exceptionally comfortable car that is not inspiring to drive but it is relaxing. I myself realise that it doesnt have the dynamics of an X3/X5 or Macan and accept that.

This post is just to add balance that not every JLR Product is poor.

The car came on Continental year round tyres. So predominantly road biased. However I have driven on Machair and beaches on North Uist with no dramas.

Great review!

The issues with driving through standing water are probably due to your 22" wheels and "road roller" tyres.
l've had no issues driving through water with the 18" wheels and Goodyear Wranglers on my 90. Last week driving back from Shrewsbury l would have been better off in my boat, but the Defender coped very well.

I agree with the fact that it's not "inspiring" to drive, up to a point. I don't think there's much "inspiring" driving to be had on today's roads which are crammed with cars day and night.

The 90 on coil springs is a bit more fun but l am almost always behind another car, so any vehicle would be similar in those circumstances.

l too have changed the oil before the recommended interval. Mine was changed at 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000
Many would say that's overkill but not when you've bought the vehicle with your own money. l won't be tossing it back at the dealer for another new one after three years....this was a one off purchase and it's a keeper.

Good update, Thanks!

I actually find mine a lot of fun to drive because it's better at road driving than it probably should be.
Of course, it's not setting any Nurburgring records, and negotiating real twisties or hard braking isn't terribly impressive. But for long fast flowy A-roads, you can get a wiggle on. I guess the more 'inspiring driving' comes when you leave the tarmac behind.
