Are these steps, or sliders?
I can't see how they'd provide much protection, but I'm also an ignoramus...

They are side steps but are also very useful for deflecting idiots doors in supermarket car parks🤬

@gcc130
Thanks for the info! I thought they were a bit lacking in heftyness to help much, but wasn't sure. Definitely help in supermarkets though! Laughing

It's funny if I get the chance to watch people opening their doors how nervous they look once they realise the only parts that will suffer are their car parts! Rolling with laughter The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

Nipped up to visit some friends 'London way' - apparently near Gatwick isn't London?!? - I figured everything East of Bristol is pretty much London but yeh..

The Yeti performed extremely well, we were a little late in setting off and I'd have liked to cruise at 55-60, but ended up more like 65ish-70mph. Went the A303 way, spotted lots of Defenders and averaged around 27-28mpg!

Recent temp gauge and sender swap had me keeping my eye on the coolant, at 65 with the lights off ( Whistle ) was about 90-91 degrees...with the lights on, this added a few degrees onto the temp Rolling Eyes I guess that probably has something to do with earths... The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

Because of a potential nordic trip we are looking at lighting etc, and have been considering front spot lights, I noticed inside the cab there is a switch that says something like "spots" and I noticed behind the grill there is some coiled up wiring, I haven't yet tested anything, but I wondered if our defender once had spots... Did some digging and came across an old photo by previous owner which confirmed at one point it did, but also made me realise that mounting the spots is another thing altogether... At somepoint there was an A-Bar (if thats what it's called?)

I've checked our bumper over and I see nothing on where an A bar would be easily mounted without drilling holes, does that suggest that pic 2 below is actually a different bumper? They look identical. Or am I missing something?

Pic 1 is our picture, our current bumper etc.

Hi Ian
I think the spot light bar fixes in the same place where the bolts hold the bumper on Smile 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Thanks Clayton!

Also been informed that they're totally different bumpers - made obvious when you notice the light surround position compared to the bumper.... how I missed that Laughing The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

I'm glad it was pointed out to me though, I've considered in the past refitting light guards one day - if I ever go somewhere needing them, but I realise even that might be awkward! The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

2023 it was put down as: "Front Driver's view Items removed from driver's view prior to test Bonnet mounted spare wheel. (3.1 (a) (ii))"

This year it was: "Driver's view Items removed from driver's view prior to test spare wheel (3.1 (a) (ii))"

It's weird as it's a position from factory for some Defenders - not ours originally I guess, but for some.

It's a bit annoying having it marked, but that's another box ticked for jobs needing so glad its out the way.

My current list is growing faster than I can do anything, which is worrying! The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

As above, the long list I'm looking to complete (some before Christmas) other parts can wait.

We now have a new awning which rather than being on the current drivers side mounts will be on the passenger side, so new fixing points required for that!

Need to make an insert for one of the side windows for ducting diesel heater "heat" into the roof tent. Plan to pipe it from the heat vent inside to the window, through the window (without letting the weather in!) then up to the tent and then somehow figuring that end out Laughing

Oil change.

Swap the combustion intake and exhaust for the diesel heater round, so the exhaust isn't into the new awning side...

Got some yellow spots to fit at the front, think I might go down the grill bar mount (Britpart does one), no idea on how it fits or whether I'll have to butcher anything to get it to fit... Then I need to look into what tomfoolery that takes to wire those up Confused

What else have I missed? Oh trying to figure out where to mount the high lift jack (thinking on the side rails for the trip).
Need to mount a pelicase on the side rails.

Thermal liner fitting inside the roof tent (shouldn't take long).

Heavens knows what else, probably something.

Oh, probably need to get a shovel too... no idea if there is something recommended by folk, or just any old. The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

You have got a nice list going there Ian Very Happy

As for the ducting to get the hot air up into the tent, there was i think on this forum or could of been in one of the landy mags that someone had took the ducting from the rear panel hot air access, i think the number plate side, with a type of connecter with the ducting attached ( like a tumble dryer ducting ) then fed it up to the tent Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
