Newbie questions

Hi all. First post. Just bought a MY20 P400 X. Absolutely love it. Couple of things:

1. I want to gloss black wrap the lunchbox hangers. Anyone any experience here? Are the box and hangers easy to remove?

2. I want to change the ladder steps to gloss black. I've got suitable new steps (Hunters Prestige) but I can't unlock the steps. I assumed it'd be the same key as the lunchbox but it seems not. Is it possible to get a new replacement lock barrel and key? Is it then easy to swap?

3. It's come with an extra remote fob that I think is for a remote heater?!?!

2. answer

I too have a genuine LR ladder. when locked or not, I can prise two fingers behind the lock and ease the bowden cable, whilst pulling the centre ladder step towards me and the lock releases.
I demonstrated this to the LR Dealer, to which he replied "it shouldn't do that"

Well I can pull the latch and see a spring behind it and hear the spring move. The ladder sort of comes away a bit at the top right (and i have to click it back into place) but a can't get a single finger let alone two behind the lock.

The fob is this:

1998 Defender 90 V8 Petrol 50th Auto Chawton White

That fob certainly looks like a fuel burning heater fob, this was an option when specifying the car new. It probably wont work until the temperatures get a little colder
