Keyfob Unlock and Starting problem
Ok so my 2010 Puma 110 XS Utility has developed a very annoying problem.
It appears to be intermittent but seems to happen more often as time goes on.

I have replaced batteries in both fobs and have a new battery fitted in the vehicle.
The Earths to gearbox and the Chassis seem in OK condition.

The problem appears to happen if I leave the vehicle and DONT lock it with the keyfob.
After about 5 minutes or so I can go back to the vehicle and It will not start, the key will switch in all dash lights but nothing happens if I try to start the Landy.
Also the keyfob now won't work at all.

I can get it going by locking the vehicle with the key in the door, I then open up the keyfob and take out the battery, replace it and then it seems to work again? This sequence works probably 1/3 attempts, maybe the taking battery out isn't doing anything and just the time taken is the fix??

The local landrover dealer has no idea what's the issue, the local auto electrician also has no idea.
My local independent landrover specialist did read the codes off the ecu and didn't have any ideas, just said might be a bad earth??

No searches of any Internet forums come up with anything similar!! This is making me really nervous to use the landrover as I work in quite remote areas sometimes and can't afford for this to happen and I am unable to get it going!! Does anyone have any ideas what I should look at. Does it need a new immobiliser system? ECU? Really need some help.

Just press unlock before you start, it's the immobiliser kicking in.
It's in case it was accidentally left unlocked. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

If it happens again try locking and unlocking with the key fob several times and see if it starts to work. Ray

Disable the passive immobiliser and see if that stops the problem.

On the face of it this sounds like an AS10 fault.

It's a feature called passive immobilisation. Pressing the button before turning the key should disable the immobiliser. However there is a coil on the ignition switch that should mobilise it automatically. So it sounds like the fault is with the coil. Another thing that can do it is if you have two fobs next to each other. Do you have another set of car keys on the same key ring?

If you press the unlock button 4 or 5 times in succession does it unlock the car? If the buttons have been pressed with it out of range of the car it loses sync.

The problem is when it goes into this mode the keyfob will not work .

So if I approach the vehicle and try the fob it just won't work.
Is there a way to test what is actually at fault?

Another think I have noticed when this happens is the milometer resets to 0 and the clock has lost a few minutes. So it's losing power too.
I have read somewhere that the instrument console can cause problems too.

So from what I can work out. It's either the alarm immobiliser, the ecu, the clocks or a bad earth or a combination of all these .

Need to know where to start to identify what is the cause.

Hello did anyone source a answer to this thread. Just brought my landy 2 months ago all fine n dandy but this week the fob and immobiliser has been acting weird. Haven’t been able to unlock the landy with the fob, so changed the fob battery worked for a day fine, but now parked my landy for couple hours in London come back to it, there’s no lights on the dash saying it’s armed also I can’t switch my work lights on with my LED fob. Has my battery died? Can I start my truck tomorrow by opening the door with the key - alarm going off - key in ignition and turning it over - will the arm cease thus cranking the engine?

Really need help cause I’m stuck right now. It’s very intimittent.

Any solutions to this? My 2003 TD5 has the same issue. Keyfob stops working and can spend 10mins trying to get it to work. I can bump start it from my drive and away it goes??

Battery ground is a con on fault with this, high continuity in the ground path causing high voltage drop on ignition, thus failure to start..

It’s not the only issue but is common, and happens out of the blue sporadically. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️
