Right update for you all who have been following this or offered help.
Got car back tonight, turned out to be the ECU that had completely failed Really annoyed at this as it had been remapped to give more performance. I had the original ECU in the loft so that is now fitted and the car runs, not like it used to but it runs. The garage said that something had caused a spike and taken the ECU however they were not sure what. Just before going off to Salisbury I fitted a wading plug in bell housing because of all the water we would cross. Tonight I removed it to see if water had got into the bell housing. I discovered that there was no water but some mud. Obviously there was water that has now drained / evaporated off. If I had the wading plug fitted how would water get in the bell housing I don't want this happen again. Also need to get performance back so need to buy new ECU (NNN) TYPE) as the one I have fitted currently is the old type. Ideally would like one already remapped? Can anybody on here help me with that Please let me know |

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think Td5 injectors are coded to the ECU. What I mean by this is that their characteristics are all slightly different, so the after manufacture the injectors are bench-tested and given a 'code' which allows the ECU to compensate for variations in their performance.
So, if you install an ECU out of another vehicle, it will run but probably quite rough, and certainly not as well as it could. |

Does anybody know of any good ECU repairers in the West Midlands
figuring that it may be more cost effective to repair old ECU than buy new and then remap ? thanks in advance |

Right another update,
Over the weekend I refitted the ECU that appeared to have let me down. The one that the garage thought was at fault. Well it worked just fine Took car back to garage where they did the diagnostics and they were just as surprised as me My problem now is what had got so wet that it caused this engine management light fault and upset the ECU so mush that the car would only run on tick over I did play rather too much in some quite deep water just before this happened I know it could be 1) the throttle pedal / faulty or just very wet 2) some have mentioned the crank sensor (apparently just a magnet) but told that if it had failed engine would not run 3) I have checked wastegate on turbo and this is fine 4) No oil in harness / ecu plugs 5) No water in fuel / air box does anybody else have any ideas what could have gotten too wet and caused this problem thanks in advance |

I've just had exactly the same problem so interesting to read what you have done, I too went through some deep water but back in November and ony just had the problem so not sure if the two are linked really?! My local Indy has got a second hand ecu to fit and reprogram Tuesday so will see what happens. With all this talk of crank sensors it's making me wonder now

Hi ben to be honest I have not had time to do anything yet. But for the sake of a few quid I will fit a new crank sensor when I get chance. The car runs fine now that it has dried out. My worry is what will happen if it gets wet again. I guess only time will tell

Did the ECU get wet? Have a look in the seat box and see if you have a "tide mark" above the ECU.
I had a friends disco2 that had a wet ECU. A day drying on the radiator cured the fault.....and never returned again (18+ Months). Though there were about 15 Fault Codes in the ECU after the incident! And yes that is me in the water! Click image to enlarge Also had a similar fault with a friends TD5 90. His TPS (Throttle Pedal) got wet. Again a thorough drying (Heating on full heat on the feet in the cab) sorted it all. Good Luck Chan Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Only Alcohol Can Save me Now Nanocom Available in the North West |

Just to update on my problem, all turned out oil has come down the loom and done in the ecu!! strange though as nothing at the engine end thinking it might of had a new injector loom at some point before I got the vehicle. Anyway all back up and runnning now so fingers crossed no more problems !!
