Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but I can confirm that the standard roof rails do fit on the V8
Fitted them on mine over the weekend, no issues at all. Land Rover say that the V8 can’t be fitted with roof rails but I don’t understand what reason they have for that… Probably something to do with regulations and type approval or something? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

I recall it was something to do with the heavier V8 (affecting max GVW) but it should not stop, and it hasn't to you from doing so. Maybe don't max out the roof load to be on the safe side... 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

I was close to buying a cancelled order my dealer had whilst waiting for the range rover to be built. Not being able to put a roof rack on was the deal breaker. Dealer told me that technically it can be done but the car wasn’t approved for them and to check with my insurer if they would accept it as a modification. I did and they wouldn’t but to be fair I didnt ring around any specialist insurers. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Due to the heavier engine and transmission, brakes and suspension, the V8 models have 0kg roof loading capacity. It's to do with GVM and compliance. Doesn't mean you can't physically fit one, just that your vehicle will be technically unroadworthy and non compliant, so no insurer will pay out in the event of a claim. I doubt that JLR would change a tooling bay to makevroofs for thr V8 separately, what they should have done is tweaked the configurator so that you cannot opt for roof rails if you select the V8engine.
Personally I'd be frustrated (to say the least) to drop north of 200K aud on this model and not be able to carry stuff on the roof. The D300 has the next lowest capacity due to its heavier engine and transmission eating up axle capacity, the P400 has the highest roof carrying capacity by about 30kg. This was a key factor in my decision on this variant, that and the fact that diesel is now more expensive than petrol, and they run ad-blue, a con in itself if I ever heard one. |

More to do with max speed versus rating of roof loads. Same when LR stopped safari roofs once the Stage 1 hit the dealers.

As per my post above. Technically they can be fitted but the car is not approved for them. I think it's the GMV. My insurer said No when I asked if they would cover me carrying anything on the the roof. I'm glad I checked before pulling the trigger and my dealer was proactive in pointing it out.

It’s nothing to do with the weight - otherwise the 130 which is significantly heavier would be the same and it isn’t
Its speed and dynamics related - having that weight on the roof at high speeds and then having sudden changes in direction causes issues |

Maybe you’re right, LR roofbars come with a warning not to exceed 80mph and to adapt your driving style to changed vehicle handling. Will be interesting to see if they overcome the issue with the SVR. the Range Rover equals and some models betters the performance and can have roof bars I bought them no probs for mine. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

It has to do with the weight, dynamics and certification for it. On another forum the following was posted from someone working at LR:
"I'm going to address this since there seems to be a great deal of interest. The decision to not offer a roof rack has absolutely NOTHING to do with design or marketing. Marketing is shouting at the top of their lungs right now for a roof rack. Some retailers are shouting for a roof rack. This whole situation has been argued at the board level with the CEO himself. The organisation as a whole wants a roof rack. It's purely for engineering reasons that the rack is not available. There are dynamic certification tests that must be cleared before we allow someone to strap over 100 kilos to the roof. The V8 is VERY heavy and it has imposed limitations because of the weigh increase combined with heightened handling limits. It would be very costly to make the roof rack work at the moment, so its all a big mess. The choice was don't offer the V8, or offer the V8 without the roof capability. We assumed it's easier for everyone to find a way to put their own roof rack on than install their own V8. The fact that the V8 is even allowed in the Defender is a triumph itself given the resistance to fuel guzzling vehicles in the world right now and the low volumes. Keep telling the retailers (sales managers, owners, etc) you want one offered. Keep emailing executives and tell them you would have purchased a V8 if they had offered the rack. Eventually we'll give a green light to engineering to address the problem at great cost if enough people create enough noise." |

Interestingly my MY25 130 V8 was delivered with roof rails despite them not being on the build sheet. (was specced as a MY24 but rolled over to 25)
