Hello,
Double Cardon front propshafts - should the double Cardon joint be 'spring loaded' (that's probably a crap way of describing it)..?? Neither of the DC joints can be set to any position like a normal UJ. They're either hard over one way or the other - and you wouldn't want to get your fingers caught in there..!! Hopefully that makes sense..?? Cheers, Dave 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility 1990 Suzuki GSXR 1100L 1980 Yamaha RD 350LC 1976 Yamaha RD 400C |

Just been out for a mooch about and it looks like the flange at the DC end is too big for my diff. ๐
The prop I've bought is a Disco 1 DC front prop. I know that the D2 one wouldn't fit but looking at this one sold by Terrafirma I assumed that a D1 one would; TFDC610 - Double cardan front propshaft for 90/110/D1 300tdi, Td5 & V8 610mm Any thoughts..?? Should a D1 DC prop fit..?? If so then I've been mis-sold a supposed D1 one (apologies for the amount of 'ones' in this post)...๐คช Cheers, Dave 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility 1990 Suzuki GSXR 1100L 1980 Yamaha RD 350LC 1976 Yamaha RD 400C |

Thanks Mark.
There was going to be a follow-up question for anyone that answered - 'which end does the DC go..??' and you've answered that ๐๐ The prop I've bought was advertised as a D1 (new, never fitted but obviously stored in a damp garage for years ๐) but I guess it must be a D2. Not sure now whether to sell it on ( or put it in the spider-shed where unloved spares go) or see what's involved in swapping T/box flanges. Typically, the previous owner fitted a D2 T/box, so the D2 flange will have been removed and a Defender one fitted..?? Iโve found the flanges interchangeable, just undo the big nut. Are the joints good on the one youโve bought?

Thanks Mark - I appreciate the replies.. ๐๐
The prop has 'GKN' and some illegible numbers cast into the drive flange. It also has '173313' and 'BV 56' stamped into the shaft with what looks like letter stamps. I can't find anything via Google. I've measured the closed length and it's only 560mm and it could well have been shortened - it looks a bit 'rough' around the sliding joint. Could it have been shortened for a different engine/gearbox configuration..?? Any help/suggestions gratefully received. What is it they say about a fool and his money..??๐ 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility 1990 Suzuki GSXR 1100L 1980 Yamaha RD 350LC 1976 Yamaha RD 400C |

GKN was an original supplier. The only difference in the flange is the diameter I think ( larger) as for the length according to eBay listing a new D2 DC front prop is 610mm. Mines a 300tdi chassis and the D2 front DC prop fits fine, I donโt know about the other models, it depends on where the transfer box sits in the chassis presumably. I think the pumas are different anyway. Iโd measure what youโve got and go from there.

Hmmmm, the stock front prop is 610mm closed length.
The abomination that I've just bought is 560mm closed length. Diff flange to Tbox flange measures 625mm (+/- a couple). Not a chance this DC one is going to fit....๐ข I'll send the seller a message - but it could be chucked into spider-shed and spend the next couple of years next to the Jackable sills (with tree bars) that I bought and don't fit.... Thanks for your help Mark.. ๐๐ 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility 1990 Suzuki GSXR 1100L 1980 Yamaha RD 350LC 1976 Yamaha RD 400C |
