If it's the standard plastic ducting that leads to the air box you are on about then there is a rubber mushroom valve fitted in the first chamber of that plastic ducting just after it leaves the wing mount fitting..it wouldn't be easily got at through the narrow spigot type fitting that joins it to the wing inlet and it's a right pain to remove the ducting to get at it..

I shall look at that tomorrow as well.
The one I am speaking about is the side mounted inlet grille that just pops off. Once off, the housing staring at you collects water and just sits there. I'd say a good inch. Feeling around, I don't see a drain which seemed odd. |

There is a drain in the centrifugal separator in the filter box and the whole length of the duct is riddled with leaks and gaps! It is really not engineering at its finest.

I'll try and explain what I'm talking about with a few photos..👍
The intake system from wing to air box..  Click image to enlarge The wing attachment which as you say if its sealed to the side of the wing properly will hold some water.. It joins the trunking and I've turned it upside down so you can see the drain built into the first chamber ..that would as I said be difficult to access from the wing attachment..(I have a rubber disc set into it.) Click image to enlarge Another picture of the air box drain bw has referred to that is built into the water separator configuration in the air box..(again sealed with a rubber disc) Click image to enlarge Again as black wolf has said its not a well sealed system relying on loose push fits, but none the less I had mine well sealed with the use of non setting mastic wiped around the joints and with the standard air box fitted gave me air flow readings that up to now are marginally better than a supposedly upgraded air intake system I'm running.. I digress..lol.. back to your water collecting at the wing air intake fitting.. It can only build up to the depth of the lip of the grill on the wing and I don't think at that level it can access the rest of the trunking..but if it does that's where the first drain is.. Failing that a small hole drilled in the wing fitting would allow water to drain but obviously allow water access to the trunking if you were in to that depth.. To end here's the non setting mastic I use to seal the standard trunking.. Works well if a bit messy to apply and does allow separation if you are taking it out.. Click image to enlarge |
