Splitting Reverse Camera to Rear View Screen and Head Unit
I have a legacy reversing/trailer hook up camera I am replacing.

Installed is a Rear View Mirror Screen (also legacy) and a Pioneer Double Din AVIC Z920DAB Headunit.

The current rear view was triggered on reverse.

I'm installing a Pioneer camera top centre above the rear door and would like to split the feed between the mirror and the headunit. I'd also like both to be triggered by her ladyship reversing.

The camera is a standard RCA male plug. So assume a female to female splitter and on from there.

The old rear view camera is a video DIN doodah so that will nee adapting too if I keep it.

Is this doable? 2001 Defender Special Vehicles TD5 Hardtop (Ex Scottish & Southern) Side Lockers, Side Hatches - Poorly chassis and bulkhead. (SORNd)

You can use a video splitter, depends on the HU compatibility if it has just an input you’ll have to use a splitter anyway, some have a video input and a video output which you can do that as well.

I have my camera on only when the head unit is on, but is permanently on when it is, so can be manually switched to view it if I need to but also will auto switch onto it if the reverse is selected.

Try and get good Video RCA cable and splitters etc such as Stinger, preferably shielded as cheaper ones will work but the reliability and image quality can be a lot poorer, in part due to the fact that they aren’t shielded and stray EMI can cause fuzziness.

It isn’t always rear view cams that are poor image quality, you can have a good camera and a good HU display, but if the cable isn’t great that will not be good. NEVER SURRENDER! ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
