Freakin' French Hail!
After an eventful time getting down to and in the Pyrenees, we were hoping for a smooth trip home... Should have known better!

Hit an almighty hail storm in central France today, like golf balls. It was like being shot at. I now have dents in every horizontal panel on the truck. Grrrr. Patina I suppose. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I feel your pain. Had the same thing happen in the Black Forest in my splity. The noise was shocking and quite scary and the roof was like the surface of the moon after it finished. Lots of cars around us took a shocking beating.

How the windscreen or other glass didn't get smashed is a miracle. Same for you. A smashed windscreen would have been a real pain.

That size of hail is more prevalent in southern Europe, where colder air from northern Europe meets warmer air from Africa. Happens quite often at my location, and usually quite concentrated in a small area roughly 3-4 kms diameter. Not sure if it would be the same in France, but if so, very unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Luckily my 90s always escaped it, not so for a daily car I used to have. Probably much more difficult, perhaps impossible to do a paint less repair on aluminum due to the more ductile (stretchy) properties. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Not sure how successful Dentmaster etc is when it comes to aluminium bodywork. We were staying in the Lot valley in early August and according to our hosts just missed a storm with hail stones the size of tennis balls that damaged their neighbour's car.

I don't think it'll be easy to get these dents out of the aluminium roof and wings. Aluminium stretches and hardens when it's dented. The bonnet and doors may well be doable.

The roof is a real mess, especially the front sloped part.

I'm just pondering whether to see about an insurance claim for it, or live with it as is. It's a talking point I suppose. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

A quick update on this. Going through the insurance and getting repaired by my chosen garage soon. £7.5k worth of work Shocked The insurers were keen to declare it a total loss initially which seemed ridiculous to me, but they came around after a bit of discussion. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

You may have discovered the holy grail of driving efficiency and economy.... Thumbs Up

So why do dimples make such a big difference? It all comes down to the physics of golf ball flight. When a golf ball is hit, it creates a layer of air around it called a boundary layer. This layer of air is affected by the dimples on the ball’s surface, which create turbulence and help the air stick to the ball for a longer period of time. This reduces drag and allows the ball to travel farther and more accurately.
