Having heard about all the changes, deletions and nanny state controls going into these beasties now, it makes keeping mine longer that much more attractive. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

I'm really struggling with them, ongoingly erasing their glorious heritage by deleting the iconic Land Rover badge, that somehow turns the Defender to a no-name car from the side-view and pushes the signature graphic now to ultimate pointlessness. Sad

With the massive increase of similar Asian products entering the market, my strategy would be the exact opposite thus to post the iconic and extremely well established Land Rover Badge wherever possible!

It started on 24MY, they deleted the tailgate badge but fixed it on mine

Same with me (kind of)… Very Happy

I also have the deleted tailgate badge. I got the badge but I'm missing the hight and distance to the edge of the teilgate. Did you find it in a workshop manual or measured it on an existing vehicle?

Short answer: In the end, I sneaked around a dealers car park and measured it Wink
Not quite so short answer: I wanted it as original as possible, so I investigated different things... One of them was Simons "Powerful" after market badge, that I more or less just bought as for the included template. However that only fitted in one direction, when I tried to verify against a real car and even if it did have done better, there's still a lot of uncertainty about how to place an oval in an oval Wink

There might also be differences between the model years - however, my scope was the MY23.

For MY23, I figured out, that the height can be leveled against the DEFENDER sign like this:
The center of the DEFENDER sign is distanced from the bottom of the door the same as the center of the oval (both red dotted lines in pics below). It's not that simple though, for the edge of the door is curved Sad - so better take some measuring points. The distance to the side edge, was some addendum to Simons template that will not help, I guess. But on measuring for yourself, please keep in mind, that the side edge also might be slightly curved.

It's not a complete solution, but hopefully yet a little help!

Using the "Defender" letters on the tailgate as reference is an excellent dea!. Thanks!

Has an MY25 already been delivered? I would be very interested to know how many small changes there are. Fortunately, the badge is easy to fix.
I'll have to wait until the end of September. Whistle

My MY25 arrives at the dealership mid-August. I’m not expecting anything not covered in their media release.

My MY25 arrived at the dealership compound yesterday; needs mud flaps, wheel arch protectors and side steps fitting and hopefully I shall be collecting next weekend.

I quite like the look of the badge deleted on the signature graphic

Ordered a MY25 D350 earlier this week and only now seeing they have deleted side and rear ‘Land Rover’ badging - really disappointed as I quite liked them on older models! Does anyone have recommendations on stockists for replacement badges and whether I need a specialist to attach them? Are they magnetic?

They ditched the rear badge on 24MY I just used a decal in its place. It’s all to do with their House of Brands marketing BS, it’s no longer Land Rover Rolling Eyes

I got this one made

What nonsense does LR do from time to time! Even though it is JLR nowadays, how can they refuse to put such a genuine, recognizable, envied and historical badge as the Land Rover one? To me it seems like an absolute outrage… By the way, yours is very pretty J77 Thumbs Up

I also have a MY24 without the rear badge. The partnummer is LR062123. However it is tricky to fit, because there is no template and there is nowhere in the LR manuals any measurements where to fit it. You need to measure un existing vehicle, at a dealer Sad

I'm pretty sure the de-badging is in relation to JLR essentially dropping the "Land Rover" brand in lieu of individual nameplates like Defender, Range Rover, Discovery, etc... https://www.motortrend.com/news/jaguar-lan...-defender/

Not saying I agree with it - in fact I find it quite ... pig-headed. Remember that in order to explain the behavior of any large organization, just assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its worst enemies - then it makes sense.

Quote:
These buyers aren't interested in the off road capabilities or whether you can lock the differentials manually (although l bet that option was ticked on the configurator) or the fact that the V8 is now slightly de-tuned.
They want a vehicle that's good to be seen in, and better than next door's generic SUV.

I'm still new around here, so I don't know if I'm touching a 3rd rail here, but the new Defender was never about offroad prowess. Sure its capable - it has a proud heritage to live up to after all. But much like what GM did with my beloved H1 when they introduced the H2 - the masses want "just enough" offroad prowess for what the consumers dream about doing when they buy the car... which is re-enact those dramatic slow-motion action shots from the advertisements they see on TV where the vehicle is going over a bunch of rocks, through deep snow, or submerging itself under water.

In reality though, it's going to be on pavement 99.99% and that 0.01% is going to be the soccer field where the kids get dropped off.

That being said - JLR did miss an opportunity - at least over here in the states. It started right before the pandemic but there has been a huge, massive offroad vehicle market explosion over here in the US. You can't go anywhere without seeing dozens of not hundreds of Jeep Wranglers, Ford Broncos and Toyota 4Runners now. A Defender with a hard plastic interior, cloth seats, 17" wheels, manual transmission and a removable top in the sub $50k price point would have sold like wildfire - and during the height of the pandemic, people would have been buying them for $150k like they were Broncos when they first came out. (By comparison, over here in my neck of the US, which is admittedly very rural, you can go days at a time without seeing another L663 on the road).

But much like Toyota found out when the Land Cruiser was a $100k vehicle - luxury vehicle buyers do not like mixing with the plebs in the dealership service waiting room. Its a real thing and I suspect JLR knew that when they decided to release the L663 as an upmarket luxury vehicle. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

Looks great! I really do find it quite sad they have ditched the Land Rover branding and all of the heritage it entails - I put in the order not aware of this change- feels like a step backward to something quite generic and not sure what their marketing people were thinking.

And here at the other end of the world we are still waiting on MY24's to arrive. At least the badge should still be on the Signature Graphic Smile
