What's the forum's feelings about these? :

Thinking about getting rid of my A bar & 8" spots on my DC, but want to keep some decent lights up front. Mark

I'd want to know a little more about the LEDS before shelling out.

You'd want 1w LED's at least in that application.

What is the important thing about lights?

It is not the power consumed by the light, not even the price.

What you need to know is the light output!

If you want LED you need to look at visionxusa

A (standard) car headlight gives about 200 lumens. They sell lights that are 5000 lumens if you want that kind of thing.

Interesting Mike I did not know that the 'standard' car headlight only had a light output of about 200 lumens. Have you got a reference to that type of figure?

We stock the VisionX Solstice light, full details HERE

Quote:

Powerful 10-watt LED
Efficient 10-watt LEDs
With Vision X 10 Watt LED Technology, each LED is rated at 900 lumens of output. That is a ton of light coming with a amp draw of around 1.1 Amp per LED. .
Efficient LED Technology
The Solstice Series is driven at 80%. This means a minimal amount of energy is lost in the internal circitry so that there is more light output from each LED.
Optically Pure
The Solstice Series utilizes optics that are pure, directing more light at your target by eliminating stray light.

No they are not the cheapest LED around, however you do get some details about them!

Aye, that's what I was getting at in a roundabout way.

The LED heads we use for emergency vehicle applications are all Gen 3 1w LED heads.

The difference between cheap LED and expensive LED in light output is immense.

I think buy cheap, buy twice still applies with LED heads.

Matt.

Just my opinion;

You get what you pay for. I've just had a look at the Vision X website and have to say the amount of detailed information they offer as well as the associated warranty wipes the floor with the eBay listing. The T's & C's are more thorough than the product description on the eBay listing!

When I can save up enough, and justify the additional lights as needed more than coveted Mr. Green

Brendan, the problem with most lights available to buy is that watts and lumens whilst not a bad combination for them to state, arent actually the important measure. I think we might have had this discussion before, let me have a look. if not I'll say a bit more about it. Light is my working life so it's something (the only thing Laughing ) I know a bit about.

True Mike, we have discussed this before, we probably will again.

Whilst lumens may not be the best measurement of light, what is?

1 lux at what range?

What is needed is a standard means of measuring light output from lights under standard conditions. At least consumers might then be able to make a more informed choice.

How can consumers make an informed choice with little or no information?

Earlier today I was giving some information about some other products we sell to a potential customer. The possible alternative was cheaper (to be honest a lot cheaper) but it had zero information with it. Now how can that customer make a honest informed decision?
