Yes, they are different. The backrest angle is more upright on the DC due to the rear panel of the cab. There is a spacer included in the seat back mechanism which can be removed to make them the same angle as the SW seat (but then of course they won't fit in a DC).
The DC seat backs are also pointlessly bolted to brackets to the rear bulkhead so they can't be tipped. There is however no reason why these can't be removed and the tipping mechanism used in the normal way. As far as I know these are the only differences. Somewhere on this forum, many years ago, there was a thread showing in detail the way the backrest angle was constrained and how to modify the DC seats to match SW. Careful searching should find it. |

The seats I have do seem different to the ones I had in my 07 Puma SW, and not just the backrest angle.
I made a shelf for a fridge and it fitted in place of the single seat in my puma. It bolted to the front of the rear seatbox and had a cutout to sit on the bar of the rear catch. It fitted in place with the 60% section down. I measured the distance from the front face of the rear seatbox to the centre of the rear catch on the seats as currently fitted and the shelf. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge These two measurements should be the same. But on the seats I have the distance is 40mm greater. This means the striker arm has to be more vertical and as a result the seat is tipped further forward. The distance I had on my puma was 280mm and on these seats it is 320mm. The front of the seat base sits approx 125mm forward of the edge of the seat box. Could someone measure their seats please? Thanks. quick edit. Looks to be a different part number for the puma seat frame for a SW/USW vs a DCPU. Click image to enlarge Think I may have answered my own question. But if someone could check theirs for me to make sure I am not going mad that would be great |

Would have been more interesting if I had known before Hours of head-scratching to try and get the chassis brackets lined up. Defenders eh, never a dull moment.
Again, not sure if it is specifically this set of seats or DC ones in general but difference appears to be on the front hinge. The pivot on the DC ones is set back whereas the SW ones are either in line or even slightly forward of the front face of the seat box. Pickup: Click image to enlarge Station Wagon: Click image to enlarge I am assuming then that the rear striker plate may also be different. So I either need to see if I can source and fit DC striker plates and live with the seats being set back a bit or buy some different seats. |

Remember that the DC striker thingies don't fold flat on the floor.
It's odd and surprising that the DC seats appear to be further back because that puts them even closer to the back of the cab. If you'd said it was the other way round I wouldn't be surprised. If my DC has more legroom that an SW there must be next to no legroom in an SW! |

I think you've figured it out, but some more photos for reference from a SW:

Thanks.
I think the best bet, rather than dick about trying to bodge these in is to get a different set of seats. I was hoping to be able to dry fit everything before drilling the chassis for the support bracket but it looks like I may not have the luxury of doing that, I need to move things along while I source seats. Will@LRW, if it is not too much ball ache, could you measure the distance from the front of the gearbox to the forward edge of the metal strike plate base that the seats lock into? Thank you |

Sorry I don't have a Puma on the drive to be able to measure!
Hopefully though I'll be fitting these seats to my 300Tdi in the not too distant future. My plan for the locking bracket is to remove the rear floor, fit the chassis-to-floor brackets to the chassis, then bolt together the locking bracket from there. I've recently measured the holes in the chassis to fit these brackets. Would that be any use? LR Workshop Find a Defender's history and spec: https://defender.lrworkshop.com |

Thanks but my chassis is a replacement and a bit out so I really need to either mark up with the seats in place or at the very least measure to ensure the distance from the seat box to bracket is correct.
No worries, thanks anyway. |

My solution in the end was to sell the seats and buy some that definitely came from a SW.
Ironically the ones I managed to source came from a chap who had bought them to fit in his DCPU without realising the SW ones were different . I had already sold mine otherwise we could have done a swap. |
