Leaking headlight washer
Hi everyone. I'm interested to see if anyone else has this problem.

The washer jets for one of the headlights on my 21 Defender is leaking washer fluid. This means there is always a small puddle of water around the washer, and apart from looking a mess, it seems to mark the paintwork.

My car has just been with the dealer to have the washer replaced under warranty, and yet the leaking is still happening.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Ed

I had this at the other end of the car - the reversing cam washer wouldn’t shut off fully and had a permanent dribble. I asked on one of the FB groups and was told it’s because tiny bits of grit can obstruct the nozzle. The cure worked for me - a long activation of the cam washer blasted whatever was stuck in the nozzle out but I have no idea how the headlamp washers are activated or if they can be giving a prolonged “squosh” of fluid through the system. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Thanks for the replies. When I asked the dealer, they suggested it wasn't at all normal, and hence the order for a new washer. Seems odd that it is still leaking. Problem is, when I put a screen wash that isn't just water, it does seem to mess up the paintwork.

As for the rear, my wash wipe has completely disconnected and just sprays water all over the floor. The dealer supposedly fixed this by replacing the unit, but I've just tried it and it still sprays on the floor.

A little frustrating....

My rear screen washer line blew apart in the A pillar filling the driver’s foot well with screen wash - dealership joked it was a carry over from the old Defenders - I had to tell him my 26 year old TDi 300 never filled the footwell with water it just drained away when I opened the door a crack……..

The car was in on Thursday to have the driver side A pillar plastic trim replaced - it’s taken 3 week just about to get the replacement in and painted and the car was called back for a “while you wait”fitting………
After 40 minutes the receptionist came over to me with the keys ……………. ‘ Very sorry but we will need to make another appointment to bring the car in, the wrong side trim was ordered…….. Maybe we can arrange to collect and return the car next time to save you having to get the car to us so early in morning” unscheduled return visits to the workshop number 15 pending! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I have this issue on my car which I collected yesterday. Problem is I have the car being ceramic coated on Thursday so need it sorted beforehand. I know the headlamp washers work every few window washes when the lights are on. How do I get a sustained flush to move the blockage on? Any ideas guys and gals?

Seems the h/l washers work every fourth cycle of window wash when the lights are on. Once washed it waits 10mins before it goes again. You can shortcut the time by turning the ignition off and on. I did this and hit the washers continuously upon the h/l washers starting. It seems to have cleared the issue. 👍🏻

I topped up my washer fluid to find the issue has reappeared. I gave it another good squirt whilst on the h/lamp cycle and again it seems to have stopped. 🤷‍♂️ 24MY D300 130 X-Dynamic HSE Santorini Black

Mine has had it since I bought it in September. LR is now changing the black surrounds under warranty since the paint it so damaged around the nozzles and can't be polished out. Don't know what they will do about the actual leakage but I am trading in the car in September so I don't really care. 2025 Defender 130 V8

My dealer told me it was feature to make sure the hose was always purged!!!

It’s a known issue, they just can’t work out how to solve it. Does your rear camera washer leak as well?

Yes rear camera washer badly water stained and constantly dripping. We also have a 2023 110 HT with same rear issue but emptying the contents of the washer bottle on road overnight, but no issues with front washers. My neighbour has a new 90 and a flooded garage with washer fluid!
Yet my dealer says there is no known issue and it’s just the design of the vehicle causing water to accumulate on the horizontal area of the bumper.

My leaking washer jets, as mentioned in an earlier post, have been fixed under warranty. The garage had not seen this fault before but they replaced "the pipes" and both jets have been fine since. No idea if it was just plain pipework or had inbuilt non return valve etc but the repair was free and worked. It took several days for the parts to arrive. Thanks Jonathan

Update - had new washer jets fitted yesterday, previously the dealer fitted new pipes. Although the front bumper was wet on collection yesterday its dry this morning. Fingers crossed!
