1995 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Epsom Green

Testing new set up

Well this weekend was the first trip after Hue's redesign. I have just had a new Drivelodge PopTop fitted by Mick from Pennine Overland, along with his Explorer awning and an ARB Shower cube.

I have to say I am loving it! Quick and easy to set up, very comfortable and being able to stand up and get changed / sorted etc is a game changer. I spent a long time looking at different options and am really pleased with this set up. Its very light weight, adding only about 50Kg tops. I used to have a hardshell roof top tent which was great but by the time you added the tent, roof rack and awning etc I was carrying nearly 130Kg extra on the roof. with this new set up I don't notice its there and I'm back to 30mpg on a long trip.

That's a very nice setup!

Lovely place for camping as well. I do wonder though: with no mosquito net and open floor in the tent area, aren't the bugs a nuisance? Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Thank you 🙏. We’re on Mk4 now in the last 12 years 😀. You’re right about the midges and bugs at the moment. Fortunately that weekend there was a nice breeze which kept most away. I plan to make midge net curtain that will cover the back door in midge territory, we’ve got a similar set up over the door in our sprinter camper which works well.
