Engine cut off when idling & strange power issues

Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone can help with some issues. I have moved abroad with my Landy and the mechanics do not know much about the car here hence I'm struggling with solutions.

Bare with me, I am the second driver of the landy so may not know all the technical terms etc.

Problem 1: In the last 3 weeks my landy will suddenly cut off when idling. The idling period ranged from a good 15 minutes to now a few minutes whilst waiting for the traffic light to change. It has become worst and yesterday it cut off on a roundabout and I was stuck. The engine turns on fine, as soon as I attempt to set off, it cuts off. I was stuck for a good 15 minutes. My partner told me to take out the key, switch off all the lights, turn on and off the alarm then start again but rev the engine a lot before taking off and it worked.

I had driven around 120km at around 80-100kmph prior to this happening with no issues, its as if the car doesn’t like to be driven at low speeds.

Problem 2: Occurred 3 times now, around the same time as the issue above. I slowed down on the motorway to 1st gear as there was traffic. I began to pick up speed again but it felt like I was not putting my foot on the accelerator at all because the car was crawling, I didn’t notice until i got to gear 3 then realised it was really lagging behind. Suddenly with a burst of energy the car zoomed off as per usual. The motorway was flat.

Today my partner took it for a drive and it cut off going up a mountainous motorway and had to be recovered to the garage.

No idea.

What we have done the past 2 weeks:
mass flow test - normal
fuel pressure - normal
injectors pressure - normal
fuel pump pressure regulator changed
full service - even though it was not due yet
new fuel filter
coolant level - normal
fuel pressure - normal

Please help!

Most likely VCV replacement needed (not very expensive)
Possibly Turbo EA getting stuck, possibly by sticking turbo vanes, lube on the pivots with 3 in 1 light oil.

Do you happen to know how old the VCV is?

Hi

Basically what Custom90 said. Replace the SCV/VCV with a new genuine Denso one.

An easy enough job, if not a little fiddly but you can do it in an hour or so if you take the time to remove a few bits to make access easier. A genuine Denso replacement can be purchased for around £60-£70 off the internet.
