Replacing battery with aftermarket Exide EK960
Last Friday my car just barely opened up, attempt to start failed direct and all screens went black.
Removed the battery to charge at home - I live in the city centre.. , with the NoCo Genius 5
I could close the driver door with the spare blade, but no possibility to close the passenger door, so a strap between the console and the door handle did the job. The rear with softclose needs power so this was safe.

After 18 hours of charging the light lit on Green, replaced, driven direct afterward 20 Mls. It did look all fine.
Next Day dead again, couldn't open it. So I needed a new one, quick search OEM Landrover GX73-10655-BD = Exide EK950/EK960 100% identical with breather plug opening.

Ordered online next day delivery, replaced - I was worried about the BMS but no direct faults -
Today I did a reset for new battery with the IIDtool..
The first battery was from build date 11-12-2020. Delivery of the car was 08-04-2021 Just 3 months out of warranty..

I remember my parents Volvo 240 had the same Varta battery for 12years, left the lights on one day battery dead and never recovered. 12 years were batteries better then?

Battery health is determined by more than the quality of the battery itself. Charging system (alternator), cabling/wiring health, and overall vehicle use are huge factors into how long your battery will survive.

I've got an Odyssey battery that I put in my FJ Cruiser in 2015 that still cranks up just fine when its below freezing outside and has sat for a week. Whereas the two year old Die Hard batteries (in parallel) that I had in my H1 died due to the fact that I was taking too many short trips to the sandwich shop and back - and wasn't giving the alternator enough time to recharge after glow plug cycling. Ended up taking out 2 alternators with them.

These days we have a ton more electrical doo-dads and doohickeys that present drainage sources for batteries - so its no wonder that we go through them with more regularity. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package

The battery in my old Defender was fitted in 2012 and was still fine when l sold the vehicle in 2022, 100,000 miles later.

Your car was delivered on the same day as mine! I have done 29000 miles since. My battery is not showing any sign of deterioration, so I suspect you need to look at the charging system? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Modern vehicle systems use several orders of magnitude more power than (say) a 10 yo car. Smart alternators, hvac systems, adaptive cruise control, a myriad of sensors that are active even when the car is sleeping and complex engine management systems means a std 12v battery gets very highly utilized.

Short trips don't help at all and reduced manufacturing costs means the 'fit for purpose' duty for a battery is just that. Getting 2-3 years from a modern battery is good.

I run lithium in my motorcycles and I hope to be able to swap to a lithium when the battery in the MY23.5 goes.
