Just fitted my Crystals and Philips X-Treme. No problems fitting, but not quite as straight forward on the Puma due to the added complication of the electric leveling motor. Could not see any way of removing the old lens without disturbing the headlamp aim screws, now have two horizontally opposite each other and a third on the electric drive. Just waiting for darkness to see how much difference there is to the standard set up.

There's another thread I was in about adjusting them the old-fashioned way until you can get it done by a machine. I did mine myself and the local TÜV garage said they were fine!

Thanks, found your other thread. I will check the adjustment tomorrow.

I can confirm that it was money well spent. The improvement is excellent. I can drive down our lane without reverting to hedge braille now! Very Happy Rich

The geek in me really likes the idea of those LED headlights, but for £1200 a pair? Are they really 20 or 30 times better than the Wipac crystals with decent bulbs in them?

For a complete DIY spanner like me, any links to the Wipacs/bulbs and can my local garage fit them?

Could be interested in the LEDs too. Possibly... Any links?! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

No problem

Bulbs here

Aaarghhh - SO tempting Sad
Only worry is if one dies after guarantee (3 years?) - very expensive to replace...
The ones I'm looking at are here:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/290637702882?ssPage...1438.l2648 Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Fitting WIPACs and bulbs can be done with one screwdriver - it really won't take you long. Procedure is:

Sidelights and indicators off (unscrew)
Headlight trim panel off (2 screws)
Headlight unit out (4 large screws at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o'clock - don't drop them into the bodywork!)
Levelling ring off (if fitted - no need to touch screws as the holes are slotted, just pull them out sideways)
Disconnect levelling motor (if fitted - push clip)
Bezel off (3 small screws holding clips, probably very rusty)
Rubber cap off back of bowl (pulls off)
Then fit the new bulb to the new bowl and reassemble.

In the finest Haynes manual tradition, assembly is the reverse of disassembly Whistle
