United Kingdom 2004 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Santorini Black
Ireland Tour
I’m off to Ireland on the ferry in four weeks, and I’m ashamed to say it’ll be my first time in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland! The plan is to go over with the V8 110, but it may end up being the Td5 90 (it all hangs on whether I can get the V8 ready in time or not).

I have a rough route in mind, which I’ll put below. Does anyone have any recommendations on sights to see, places to stay, and roads to drive? I’ll be there for a week.

Ferry from Holyhead to Dublin
Night 1: Belfast
Night 2: Donegal area
Night 3: Castlebar area
Night 4: Galway
Night 5: Bantry area
Night 6: Cork
Night 7: Rosslare area
Ferry from Rosslare to Pembroke Charlie

2002 Td5 90 (SOLD)

1983 V8 110 Limestone (Previously owned by Tom Sheppard MBE)

Glengarriff on the west coast was my favourite place. Kenmare is also a very pretty town. I’ve been a few times, the people are friendly and the roads terrible! Have a good trip.

You have to go to the Giants Causeway in the north and do the coast road up there.

It’s stunning. We had a few days there on our trip and want to spend more time .

Inch beach on the west is good for a bit of sand under the wheels.

There is so much to explore it’s great wherever you go.

Food is good and the dark beer is excellent.

The Wicklow mountains are worth a visit, there’s a campsite in a Christmas tree farm. It’s like wild camping in the trees with all the comforts.

Enjoy, fuel was cheaper when we went so fill up over there. Check with strong pound at the moment.

Thank you, both! Those are some great starting points.

The Giants Causeway is absolutely on the list. I’ve added the others in, and they should fit around current plans nicely.

I like the idea of dropping on to Inch Beach! Charlie

It would be worth considering contacting Adam at Flat Cap Adventurers if you fancy going off the beaten track.

We had a great week in the Wicklow mountains a few years ago with the series ones.
I would suggest you don’t try to do too much in a week, take it easy, soak up the atmosphere

Hello
if your going from Belfast to Donegal, i have just inputted Carndonagh as an example in Donegal which you can change, but the drive around the north coast road is excellent

i live here and know these routes very well and have driven them many times in my V8 90

from Downhill beach you can drive along the beach to Benone beach then join the route via Limavady onwards to Donegal

hopefully this link i have attached works
https://maps.app.goo.gl/TYgztVW5W2818EaM9

anyway you will certainly enjoy the run and the people thats for sure

Looks like stunning countryside! Yes, the plan is to do a few easy hours of driving each day and plenty of relaxing and exploring. Charlie

Thanks, Ivan. Indeed, I’ll be driving up to that northern part. Great tip about the beach, it’s now on the list! Thumbs Up Charlie

I have been over in my series one, a series two and Defender on trips around the South and the scenery is stunning. If you are off to Galway, and have the time. the coastal road towards Clifden, passing through Roundstone Harbour and Dogs bay are very nice.

I can also recommend this little brewery in Dublin if you are passing....... Very Happy

Roundstone Harbour is on the list!

Sadly, I’m not sure I’ll have time for the Guinness brewery. After disembarking the ferry in Dublin, I’ll be going straight up to Belfast. Charlie
