There’s a toothed retaining piece under the spring clip. It’s tough to lift it and not tweak the spring clip out of shape. Because it’s a Ford engine, parts are super cheap. I bought a timing kit for not much money which included all the gears, guides, tensioner and chain.

Agree with above, a cheap part and if it goes wrong major costs.
I pulled the old one apart and I could see no way of reliably re setting it. HTH Keith |
