Injector torque and my drinking problem
Everywhere online it says:

6nm (53 in/lbs) and 180°

BUT, in the workshop manual it says:

6nm (53 in/lbs) and 360°

I have done as the workshop manual suggests. The bolts did not snap. I have two new spare in the cubby. Any idea why the discrepancy?

...back to the bottle while I await an answer.

Which workshop manual is that? It does not appear to be a JLR manual.

The genuine WSM for the 2.4 clearly states:

    Install the fuel injector clamp.
CAUTION: Make sure the fuel injector clamp is installed correctly. Failure to follow this
instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.

Stage 1: Tighten the new bolt to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft).
    Stage 2: Tighten a further 180 degrees

Thanks for the reply. Seems genuine-ish to me. Thus the confusion.

OK, definitely a JLR manual, my mistake! Typical LR, both figures can't be right. Your manual will be later than the one I quoted (original 2.4 electronic manual) since it covers 2.2 engines as well, I will check what the 2.2 e-manual says.

I wonder what the Ford manual says....

Look in a 2.4 pdf. Says 180° as expected.

The electronic 2.2 manual does indeed specify 6Nm and 360 degrees, as stated in your printed manual. this suggests two possible scenarios:

1. It should be 180 degrees for the 2.4 and 360 degrees for the 2.2 and the printed manual omits to say this, or

2. For some reason JLR decided that the torque should be increased to prevent blow-by at some point during the period from 2007 to 2012.

I don't suppose that there is any way to know which is the case, but that fact that you have, as you say, tightened your 2.4 to the higher torque suggests that it probably doesn't really matter.

I've attached a screenshot from the online 2.2 manual for people to see. In the hard copy manual I have it says that specs are for 2.2 and 2.4 unless otherwise stated. I guess I'll be the guinea pig.

The 2.4 (LR019168) and 2.2 (LR029962) bolts are quite different with the 2.4's being much longer.

It's all very interesting but nothing is yet very reassuring. The thought of injectors escaping through the bonnet is a bit worrisome.

I don't think it's critical because it's an expansion screw. If 360° has led to plastic deformation, the expansion component and thus the securing potential of the screw is still present. The screw is of course irreparably damaged, but is still doing its job.

Just a follow up. Though on the relevant pages it made no reference to a different spec for the 2.4, elsewhere, in small print, it did say that the 2.4 should only be turned 180°. So I fit new bolts and torqued it to that spec.

Thanks for the update, and I think that you have made a wise decision.

It is sadly typical of JLR's recent performance that the manuals contain errors and at times different versions are contradictory, it resonates shoddy QA and a lack of technical reviews (but it could be argued that the current products do this as well).

I think the compelling evidence in this case is the fact that, as you have illustrated, the bolts are entirely different. I wonder what will happen when an unfortunate owner loses an injector and gains a big ding in the bonnet because a main dealer has followed an incorrect manual?

Ford transit 2.4 workshop manual says 6Nm and 180 degrees.

Newer, 2.2 vehicles (Boxer, Duccato, BT50 etc) discussed in open foums have the same issue, as some say 180 and others 360 degrees Laughing Puma 110" SW
