I’m confused as to why people worry about functional components having a little surface blemish on them.

l treated them when the vehicle was new, so never had any rust. But l guess you'd have to rub it down and paint it if the rust has appeared. It should be a warranty repair really, but personally l wouldn't have the dealer take the bumper off and replace them, it's quite a task (l've done it) l would go with just a rub down and paint. Remove the plastic trims and replace after painting. |

My vehicles been in for a service where I asked them to replace the rusty tow eyes under warranty, and they refused.
It's now gone in for a faulty from parking sensor at which point I asked for replacement tow eyes again. As a gesture of good will, the dealership agreed - with very minimal push from me - I'm pleasantly surprised by Stratstone! |

fingers crossed i have not jinxed ours, coming up to its 4th anniversary, the OEM ones i purchased from
PowerfulUK and had the dealer fit before delivery have not rusted yet!!! They spent life on Sydney's Northern beaches so had plenty of salt spray around and now on the coast in tropical Queensland, so quite humid.. seem to be holding up... for now .. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Well, it's only surface rust. They will never actually get corrosion. lt's because they are made from cast iron.

They’re fitted! Free of charge - took advantage of some dealer/warranty issues to push for them. They’re quite a lot better than the old ones which look like they’d been forged by a one eyed Viking.

I fitted a set of genuine LR tow eyes from a Dynamic X - they are powder coated red.
The black trim surrounds came from Simon at Powerful UK. No rust, and they look better than the plain black ones. If they do rust, oh well, adds to character and shows they get used. More important is that the bolts that hold them to the chassis bar are torqued to the correct 160Nm. Refitting the bumper also needed a recalibration of the rear cameras, which my dealer did during a software roll back as the pivi pro was not working. Click image to enlarge |
