A combination - my old 90 is insured as a classic vehicle with Trinity Lane (brokered by Adrian Flux) and was surprisingly good value, my Td5 is brokered by AF also but can't remember the actual insurer. That wasn't so cheap Both of these were on agreed value policies. I tried Peter Best recently and they were on a par with the above as an alternative.
The D4 is insured with Admiral who are were the cheapest by over £700 p/a but they wouldn't insure the 90 due to an engine conversion and the Td5 counts as a commercial vehicle, so a no-no again. Admiral have been really helpful with adding drivers or vehicles at short notice if that is something you are after. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop 1989 300Tdi 90 Soft top 1992 200Tdi 90 Truck cab with Land Cruiser axles |

A-Plan Thatcham for a good few years now. Underwritten by Markerstudy. Now, there are many tails of wo relating to Markerstudy on the 'net, but I had a claim with them last year on another vehicle and everything went ok. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Greenlight everytime where possible. Not sure if it is always the case but they only used to cover modified vehicles so they might not insure a totally standard defender. Super friendly to deal with though and normally the people you talk to are actually interested in cars and understand what you are trying to insure! 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

NFU here for 110 and 130 Puma’s.
I’ve had two no fault claims in recent years and both were handled excellently. |

It depends whether you want agreed value or not. If so use one of the specialists such as Adrian Flux. If not, just use a comparison website and look up their feedback.
